I am just a little cirious what you guys do when you really want something like chocolate, candy, nutella (for me) any type of junk food really. How do you say no and move on? I mean for me I just sit there and I say no then yes and back and forth until I fall for it again. What is it that really makes you put down the crap and grab an apple? It's just so difficult!

I still eat candy and chocolate.. But not all of it. Like, if I go to the gas station and can't get away from the candy aisle, I pick York because it's the least calories. My new favorite thing is dark chocolate covered pomegranate. I sub my Pringles with Special K Cracker Chips.0

I guess it's more about self control. If you have a problem with self control I'd say just rid the house of the junk. If you don't buy it, you can't eat it.0

Yeah there are some things I just don't/won't keep in the house since I know I'll lose my self-control. Nutella is one of those things. I like to just consider that it really isn't water soluble with even boiling water (palm-oil concoction that it is) and so my gut probably doesn't know how to get it unstuck either.
I eat junk food, but I just buy it in the quantities I can fit in my calories. If it's something really big that I want, I'll run for an hour to earn it :laugh:0 -
If I want something, I eat an amount that will fit into my diet for the day.0

I work it in. Chocolate is my thing, so I go for the Skinny Cow candy bar. I can almost *always* find room for 110 calories. But, yeah, I just work it out and allow myself one serving size.0

I eat it............in moderation of course.0 -

This. It works. You can't eat something you don't have.
Also, find new stuff to replace it. Everyone can find a few healthy items they can love.0 -
If I can fit it in with the rest of my intake for the day then I have it.
If I can't fit it in with therest of the my intake for the day I tell myself I can have it on Saturday.
Saturdays I don't track calories and I eat what I want in whatever quantities I want it - of course when Saturday comes around I might not crave it anymore.....or I've postponed so many things for Saturday that I can't possibly have them all witout becoming sick, so I just have a few.0 -
i log it before i even get up to eat it. lol usually that makes me stop but there are days where i'm like "fk it, it fits into my calories, I'M EATING IT."0

I always remind myself of the quote "Nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels." I know the feeling i get when i eat my favorite candy or junk food, its an instant gratification and for a few second i'm in tastebud heaven but it is so short lived and after wards i feel guilty and disappointed in myself but when i say no and skip the candy and junk food that I crave I feel good about my decision and I never think back and say man I wish i would have eaten that snickers, I feel proud of myself and I lessen my chronic fear of the scale. I never buy the unhealthy foods because I know I will eventually cave and eat them. I have found some great substitutes like sugar free jello with sugar cool whip and if you add a little squirt of hersheys sugar free chocolate syrup to cool whip its an instant low calorie low fat sugar free dessert that tastes amazing. It is not easy to learn self control but when you practice it, the pay off is sooo worth it.0

I love chocolate and I'll eat it as a treat no problem. However, I don't have chocolate in my house, unless I purchase one serving size. Unfortunately, my self-control for chocolate is almost non-existent. There are lots of other yummy things that I can easily pass on and can be safely kept in my cupboard without being devoured very quickly, but chocolate isn't one of them. When I bake a sweet treat which I enjoy doing, I divvy it up between family and friends and workmates and just leave myself a little bit that I savour.
My sweet treat alternative that I pretty much love as much as chocolate (but can't really replace it) is peanut butter and banana on toast. Yummy, sweet, gooey and just wonderful. I usually treat myself twice a week on my longer run days.0 -
Mostly I try not to have the stuff I crave most in the house unless I make a decision to splurge and eat it. I never crave something bad enough to get in the car and go get it.
If I do have it, I ask myself "how long since you've splurged" and make the decision whether to eat it or not based on that. If I don't eat it I usually promise myself that I can have it <on the weekend, in a few days, etc> but often by that time the mood has passed.
I was craving baby back ribs all last week. I promised myself I would make some on the grill this weekend, but then family came over and wanted something else. But next weekend, I'm going to have some. Maybe.0 -
Normally I promise myself a little at the end of the day and save calories for it.0

i make it a challaenge to see how long i can go without ( i am currently 2.5 weeks with no added sugar/processed sugar) and next time i will try to do longer without chocolate for example
also hazelnut butter is a great substitute for nutella ( the 100%hazelnut stuff) and even better with a drizzle of dark choc or sprinkle of cocoa powder if i need an indulgent treat.
you could even make it from scratch (chocco hazelnut spread) - in a good blender whizz some cocoa powder, hazelnuts ( and skim milk powder if you wish) to taste and till smooth. don't add anything else though.
and its yummy and i make small batches and give it as gifts so if i want some, i have to make it and then that takes time 0 - so i can not bother if the craving is weak or make it and feel good and a sense of achievement,. it's high in fat still but good fat ( if it's in your calorie allowance and it is really rich in taste so i eat less.0 -
Lacewitch, thank you. I am very excited about trying this. Sounds delicious...0

^^This, exactly! For instance last weekend I knew I was going to go out and have a few beers and a higher-than-I-am-used-to calorie dinner. But, I worked my butt off in the gym for it. And, I still ended up losing weight. Ultimately if I want it bad enough, I'll work for it.0 -
Ha ha..........sheer willpower.0

I try not to deny my cravings. I just eat things in moderation. Portion control is the key for me. I have a day of the week where we all go to a local pub and I eat some wings and maybe half a portion of cheese curds, but I track it and still try to stay under my calorie limit. It wrecks my sodium for the day, usually, but at least I'm down to eating a normal portion of wings instead of a portion and a half.0

If I am lucky and my husband is with me (who can eat anything and not gain) I buy or have the sweet item and take a bite and let him have the rest. Also, if I have more than a bite of something, I make sure I work out extra.0
