Ok, so here is my story. I did p90x last year (spring 2011) and dropped 24 lbs. But I only exercised and didn't really watch what I ate (although my diet wasn't too shabby). After that I kept working out a few days each week and by the time winter came I didn't work out anymore and ate badly. I gained 10 lbs back. : / Then a few months ago I did Insanity and lost about 5 lbs. I started my fitness pal a month ago to try to get my eating right and really know what I was putting in my body. It said for me to keep my calorie intake at 1200 and to work out about 3 times a week/45 minutes a day to get to my goal weight. I have been doing ok on that. The working out I can do... but the eating is a little challenging. I am 5'4" and 150 lbs. My goal is 140 lbs. For about a month now I've been running a two miles at least twice a week and I haven't lost a pound and I can't tell I look any different. Help?!

I've heard it said that when you're trying to lose weight working out is only 10% of it, 10% will depend on genetics, and 80% will depend on what you eat. I suggest you look into this book called The Eat Clean Diet. I've always had a problem with overeating or eating junk food but ever since I read this book it's so much easier for me to put junk food down because it's not only the amount of calories that you eat it's also about the quality of the food. It talks about providing your body with the right kinds of protein and carbs, and you have to feed your body pretty often to keep your metabolism going strong all day. I just started this about 2 weeks ago and here's a typical day for me: 8am breakfast: 1 c. oatmeal with berries or an apple, and a boiled egg. 11am snack: an apple and 2 tbsp of peanut butter. 2pm lunch: greek salad, and 1/2 a turkey sandwich. 5pm snack": protein shake at about 200 calories. 7:30 dinner: tilapia filet, broccoli, and 1/2 brown rice. At every meal I try to have protein and some kind of complex carbohydrate that doesn't spike my blood sugar. Eating like this I do get hungry every 2-3 hours and when you find your body is doing that it means that your metabolism is running faster. I've found this to work for me but I know everyone is different. Keep up the good work, I know those workouts are really tough and good luck!!0

I've said this on several plateau post today, but my advice is to vary your calorie intake. My general plan:
Monday - 1000 calories
Tuesday - 1200 calories
Wednesday - 1500 calories
Thursday - 1200 calories
Friday - 1500 calories
Saturday - 2900 calories
Sunday - 1800 calories
This averages about 1585 daily, but allows me to enjoy my weekends, plus I think varying calories doesn't allow your body to "get used" to what you're doing.0 -
Eat more. 1200 is probably not enough.0

I would increase your intake some.

That's a really helpful thread with finding out how much you should be eating! I would just recommend using a different BMI calculator...it estimated my body fat as 29%, which is wayy off for me.0
