Hi,
I have 57lbs to lose. I am 5'6 female 24 years old. For those that have done it and reached their goal...how did you do it? I know MFP gives a low goal of 1200 cals. I upped it to the 1300s but I really am not sure what I am supposed to be doing. My goal is 30min cardio 5x a week via treadmill or elliptical and 30min weight machines 3x a week. Today is my last day of class until the 29th so I want to really make a solid plan before then. I have a hard time figuring out what to do in the gym. Any tips would be awesome
So what should I BE doing???
Did you follow a diet (or ate what you wanted and just stuck to cal goals?) or an exercise plan?

For me it's been harder as I am older than you...49! I joined Weight Watchers in October 2010 and was successful until this past April. I hit my 50 pound mark with them, but just felt something was missing. I plateaued for the months of May, June, and July partly due to a new medication that my doctor put me on (and gained almost 5 pounds back). Then around the first couple weeks of August I decided to find something new....I found MFP!! Thank goodness. I get 1450 calories a day to lose an average of 1 pound per week. In the couple weeks I've been here I've lost 2.6!! PLUS I am doing Jillian Michaels 30 day shred along with walking on my treadmill 30-40 minutes 3x a week. This is more exercise than I have done in years. My suggestion for you, find what works for you. You may have to tweak it a bit to fit your lifestyle then stick to it! I am actually considering lowering my caloric intake daily to up my weight lose to 1 1/2 pounds a week.
Good luck!! Add me as a friend if you want!0 -
I'm 44 years old, 5'5" and have lost a total of right around 50 pounds. I eat less and move more, trying to make better choices and incorporate lots of fruits and veggies into my diet. But I don't eat clean, and I still enjoy most of the same foods I have always eaten, including alcohol and dessert. I have never eaten less than 1400 calories per day, and I do my very best to eat back all my exercise calories. However, it's taken me about 4 years to lose the weight. Partially because I have a disease that makes it difficult and partially because I have fallen off the wagon many MANY times.
My best advice would be to get yourself a food scale and weigh everything that you eat to be sure your calories are as accurate as they can be. You can probably get one for $10 - 15, well worth the investment. Do some research on what you're logging to help determine accuracy. Be aware that not all entries in the MFP database are accurate. Find foods that are healthy and that you enjoy. If you feel like it's a chore to eat healthy, you probably won't do it.
And find some things you enjoy doing for exercise and do them. Walk, hike, bike, swim, play sports, do yoga, zumba, spin, hit the weigts...whatever! If it's something you like to do, you'll continue it. If not, it will become a chore. And it doesn't have to be the same thing all the time. If you're bored, find a new activity.
But eat less and move more...that's the ticket! Best of luck to you.0 -
Honestly, different things will work for different people. However, a clean diet will always get you results. Weight loss is 80% nutrition and 20% workout. As long as you eat healthy, you don't have to workout an insane amount. Also, there are different approaches, you can either count calories and stay within 1200 or you can eat healthier and go a over 1200 while still losing weight. A calorie, is not just calorie-- look at what nutrients you're obtaining from the foods you're eating. 100 calories of veggies are more nutritious and will fill you up more than 160 calories from 3 cookies. See what I mean? It all about trial and error. I'll leave you with this tip: The key to success is determination. "There are no 'tricks.' There’s only working hard, eating right, and knowing that you can do whatever you decide to do."
Best of luck on your journey to a healthier you!0
