weights increasing!!!! :( :(

hi all, I have upped my cardio to try to loss weight and tone up before my wedding next year, I'm doing atleast half an hour to 45 mins cardio 4-5 times a week alwayts different from circuits to horse riding and spinning classes then just general gym x trainer rowing etc with strength training too for my arms.
My diets average i have about 1400 cals a day for my height, and struggle to eat less as I find when I'm exercising I generally need the cals for energy.
All this tho and to start with I have put on weight and now just seem to be sitting around 144-146 pounds (5'7) my aim is not huge just to get to 137-140. Just seems all my work and achey muscles aren't really showing yet please tell me at some point my body will just starting moving this weight off!!!
Any advice would be great

free weights.
Look into a strength training programme such as New Rules of Lifting or Stronglifts 5x5. You may also need to up your calories when you are exercising too to be able to build muscle - building muscle will help to burn fat for longer.
One of the reasons I looked into strength training was that I just didn't have the time (or inclination) to do hours on hours of cardio.0 -

ok thats great I'll have a little read up maybe I should just increase my weights then I always just presumed that I should do cardio to get the bulk off otherwise I'd be toning underneath any fat but I guess if muscle burns more it should start creeping off!
I'll hit the weights today I think!!

i'm really bad colleen I ususally excercise at the gym at work and that before lunch and I don't eat breakfast . thanks for the link I'll check it out now :)0

You should measure your waist etc. as well and not care so much about the scale. My body has a similar pattern as yours. During a work week I bike for over an hour every single day at fairly high intensity and I eat at a deficit. I don't lose a lot of weight (maybe around 1-2 lb a month), but my waist gets smaller. If there's a week or two where I don't bike, I quickly lose several pounds and gain most of them back when I go back to biking to work.0

I am the same way as the last poster.... I haven't lost much in terms of pounds, but my clothes fit completely different because I lost inches. You don't have to give up completely if you are making progress.
I will put a million dollars that no one at the wedding is going to say "She looks like 145." They are going ot say you look skinny or in good shape or something like that. The scale is just a number, YOU are the whole body. You could be your ideal weight but still not in shape and what would that prove? Research is great, knowledge is power, and you kick *kitten*!0 -
this is true think i need to stop fixating on the scales and just keep gping til my clothes start to feel looser!! I'm def starting to tone up so thats good .
just pyschologically us girls like to see it on the scales!! stupid really!! just gona keep stepping up my cardio0 -

When you finally do get rid of some of that body fat what do you want to see? A bunch of weak loose muscle or nicely defined arms and legs? Don't skimp on the weights.
Cardio simply burns calories. I know, it does improve your heart and lung functionality but for the purpose of losing weight it does nothing that eating less would do. It's a calorie hole. Don't get me wrong. I think it's a good idea and I do it myself but don't think you can just do more and more cardio and lose the weight. If you're serious about this take a real hard look at your food diary and kick yourself in the pants.
The scale? That's just something to look at to tell you what to do for nutrition and it doesn't move consistently enough to tell you if you're succeeding all the time. The scale by itself isn't a measure of fitness. Fitness is measured with a tape and a mirror.0
