Hey! I've been working on weight since May 18 and as of yesterday I've lost 23 pounds BUT that's only a 1.2 lb difference from 2 weeks ago. (8.1.2012)

For the first 2 months of my weight loss I was walking, jogging, and running on a local track in addition to jumping jacks, lunges, squats, etc. at home. I switched it up 2 weeks ago to 65 (60 +cool down) minutes on the treadmill, at least 20 minutes on the stationary bike, and about 5-10 minutes on the elliptical in addition to weight training. While I was doing those exercises I was sweating like never before. That led me to believe I was going to be losing a lot more weight but I have hit a plateau.

PS
I have been watching my calories closely as I have been the (almost) 3 months.

What should I do different?

.5 to 1 pound per week is healthy weight loss. You're still in the range. I know it seems slow, but it's the best way to do it. Just keep up the good work!

Of course it's frustrating when you see a small drop on the scale that doesn't quite match up to the effort you're putting in. Losing 1.2 lb in 2 weeks may feel like a plateau but it's not. Keep doing what you're doing, give your body a chance to figure things out first. If you're stuck at no loss for a few more weeks you might want to revisit your diet (where your calories are coming from, water consumption, etc.) but don't panic just yet.

The problem most of us have with losing weight is a lack of patience and that's such a big part of this process. Had I learned to have patience I would likely be at my goal weight instead of wasting so much time trying the "Lose 8 lb this week" programs....

Just keep doing what you're doing... :)

You may actually be overtraining. What kind of weight training are you doing? If it's anything worthwhile, you might want to cut back on your cardio a bit.

Also, you say you're watching your calories, but how much are you eating, exactly? You'd need quite a lot to fuel the kind of workouts you describe.

Slower weight loss is definitely better--tends to stay off, and gives more time for your skin to adjust/tighten up without leaving you baggy and saggy!

The sad fact is that the less weight you have to lose, the slower it will come off. Now that you've lost 20+ lbs, it's harder for your body to burn each additional pound! The 2 lbs/week that MFP allows you to set is really only a realistic goal for people who have a lot (think 75 lbs+) of weight to lose. But, as someone else mentioned, half a pound to a pound a week is a healthy rate of loss for someone closer to their goal. You're still doing great! It's not a plateau until the numbers aren't budging at all. Keep it up, you'll be fine!

GREAT advice. often we fight ourselves ..working out too much, eating too little when we think that's the right thing to do. HOWEVER ... 1.2 pounds in 2 weeks is a nice loss ... Slow losses are better to preserve muscle and losing slow means more time to develop healthy habits that hopefully will last a lifetime
