Doing this for ME

I have been overweight for basicaly my whole life... a whopping 19 years haha I know i am pretty young but I am ready to make healthy decisions and work out on a regular basis and to look the way I want to look. I am ready to build these routines to keep for the rest of my life hopefully and I feel since I am starting young it will help.
I am looking to lose about 40 pounds taking me from a very unhealthy weight of 160 to about 120. I am 5'2 and like I said 19 years old and am also a female.
I have been using MFP off and on this whole summer and adding in work outs during the week. Just last week I decided to get more serious and began working out in the morning so I could get it over with and get energized for my day. I feel like my only weakness is that on the weekends I tend to not log in or work out and I plan on changing that this weekend!
MFP says I can eat 1200 calories a day which I do and I do cardio for 30-45 mins per day. I am only wondering about the BMR now... MFP says my bmr is 1449. I read a couple of comments on another topic on this site that said you need to be eating more than your BMR or else your body won't let you lose weight? HELP!
I hope to lose my weight by christmas time because I am going to visit my boyfriend who is in the navy in San Diego and I want to rock that bikini!...even if it is a bit chilly haha
advice and or motivation or friends please!

definitely don't cut down below your bmr. 1200 is seriously the absolutely bare minimum of survival, and if you try to go that low you're going to end up not getting the energy you need and lose motivation. i speak from experience on this
it's better to allow yourself to eat a bit more than your bmr actually (in your case at least 1500cal/day) so that you'll be able to have energy for your cardio, and actually end up burning more calories (and fat!) in the long run.
good luck!!0 -
Even though MFP says I should eat 1200 per day?0

let mfp calculate it for you and then be sure your goal cals and your net cals are the same or very close. it works!!!! i tried manually setting mine and did not lose as much weight as i'm losing now that i let mfp set it to lose .7 lbs/week, you can say you want to lose 1lb/week or 2lbs/wk0

I don't understand... if you don't cut below your BMR and eat back exercise calories... how do you create the deficit for weight loss? Weight loss is confusing0
