Color Run 5k....more of a walk/run??

I'm doing the Color Run 5k in DC in September, and am no where close to being able to run the whole thing (I'm keeping my hopes up...but also being realistic). My sister did the Color Run in Las Vegas last year and she said that it's more of a walk/run than a full-fledged competitive run...just wondering if any of you have experienced the same thing? (She is a runner....I am a VERY beginner runner, so even though I believe her to be truthful, I don't know if she's saying this from a runner's point-of-view or from what really happened...if you know what I mean).

Thanks!

I've seen pics of these color runs. They seem to be a more relaxed fun run. People actually stop to get color put on their shirts. I would not worry about having to walk.

I walk\run half marathons, which several people do. We stay out of the faster runners way by lining up in the middle of the pack.
  • I did that a couple weeks ago! I jogged/walked it.

I had a blast and it's motivated me to keep working hard on my running!

There were people stopping to roll around in the color at the one I did.
  • Thanks guys! I feel better now! My sister said it was a blast...really the most fun she's had at a 5k ever! It's also good to know about half-marathons...they always seem so intimidating...but knowing I could walk/run it definitely puts it back into being one of my goals.
  • A whole bunch of us are doing the Portland Oregon one on September 29th. We have serious runners, joggers, walkers and kids all doing it. We are just all meeting at the last K to finish together.

I did the one in Omaha in July. If you're a competitive runner, it's actually really frustrating - you literally can't run the entire thing because you get behind a lot of people walking, the color stations you need to walk through to get a lot of color on you... It's not timed either (at least ours wasn't) so there wasn't anything competitive about it.

I do recommend staying well hydrated. It was uber hot that day and a lot of us got heat exhaustion. Take good care of yourself and drink lots and lots of water the day before and the morning of. You should feel much better than I did at the end of it!
  • thanks everyone!
