So I managed to complete 10 days of level 1 and 3 days of level 2 of the 30 Day shred, but once I started in on level 2 my left knee and ankle were hurting to the point that going up and down stairs was uncomfortable. I have decided to stop doing that and move on to something low impact but something that can still help me lose weight. It was suggested to me to try Yoga. Can anyone give me any specific yoga that I can do regularly until my knee feels better? Preferably something I can find on Youtube. I have seen soo many different yoga videos on there, it's too hard to sort them out.
So if any of you have a particular yoga that you enjoy and has worked for you in terms of losing some weight, I wanna know about it!! Thanks!!

Do you have any idea how many videos pop up??
I wanted input from people who have certain ones they like and have seen results with. I have looked at several, but they vary so much that I don't know which ones are good for weight loss or just relaxation.

You might try searching "fat burning yoga" or "yoga for weight loss." i haven't looked on youtube but hulu has some yoga programs that are classified as such. Pretty much you do the poses but faster. I found that i didn't burn near the calories doing that as compared with well, pretty much anything else. BUT it helps a ton with flexibility and strength

Thanks for that!! Yeah I don't plan on doing this for long, just until my knee recovers and doesn't hurt anymore, then I am going to do tae bo, I hae done it before and it never hurt my joints, so I am going back to that.

Yogaworks am/pm beginners yoga is an excellent DVD
Jillian Michaels yoga meltdown is a great workout DVD as well

As someone else has said...staying in a calorie deficit is why we lose weight.

I've been doing Hatha and Flow yoga. I absolutely know that its not the calories burned when performing yoga that causes weight loss. I think it is that yoga helps you to be more body aware thus more mindful of your diet and exercise. It also helps you to reduce stress which triggers a lot of hunger cravings.

Again......calorie deficit = weight loss. How you create that deficit....through calorie restriction or exercise is your choice. ALL forms of exercise are beneficial, some burn more calories than others. As a general rule....yoga is not a huge calorie burn. There are forms of power yoga or hot yoga that burn a lot of calories but for the beginner, you most likely would not be starting at that kind of level.

Any activity can help with weight loss in the sense that it increases how many calories you burn in a day. But it really comes down to diet. You can do yoga and the elliptical all day long and won't lose an ounce if you eat at a surplus. Likewise, you can sit on your *kitten* watching tv all day long and lose weight provided that you're eating in a surplus.

Control your diet to govern your weight loss.

for weightloss yoga I would also recommend the Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltodown dvd. I woke up sore the next day the first night I tried it. The video is on youtube. Also, there is Bikram Yoga which is gentle yoga but the room is heated so It really makes you sweat it out and cause your heart rate to go up. I hate Bikram Yoga, its hard and I hate the heat but I've had friends lose weight from it.

Look for vinyasa flow or yoga sculpt workouts. Yoga helped me get more toned and flexible; can't say if it really helped me lose weight since my weight always stays about the same, but it did help me look better naked.

I'm a huge fan of bikram or "hot" yoga. I always lose weight after a class, though I'm pretty sure its water weight, lol. It does help w/ the ego on the scale the next am. I think any movement will help. Yoga is peaceful and relaxing, though the calorie burn may not be what you want, at least your moving. Google low impact exercises, there are other things you can do till your pain is gone. You also may want to get checked out, make sure you didn't injure anything:)

I wanted to comment because I did 30DS with my bad knees. There were some moves that I didn't want to try because I knew they aren't good for my knees. Have you considered modifying Jillian's moves yourself or instead of doing a knee-intensive move just jogging in place with weights or something? That's been my strategy, and I think I'm still getting all the benefits of the 30DS/RI30 workouts without tearing up my joints. =) Don't just listen to Jillian's "Don't modify this" speeches; a few tweaks will ensure that you feel great during and after the workouts AND get the circuit training benefits!

(I don't think it's available on YouTube, but I love the DDPYoga series! I get a wonderful workout, and each move is modified so that I can ensure I don't hurt my joints. Also, there's a free podcast called YOGAmazing that I love.)

30DS bothered my knees a bit too! I was trying to do it everyday...as the title sort of implies lol. But I heard that Jillian herself has come out and said that it isn't intended for everyday.
