How do you know if you should increase your calorie intake?

I have no idea if I'm eating the right amount of calories, I would consider myself fairly active...I bike ride almost every day and work in a job where I'm constantly on my feet for 8 hours. I'm always so close to going over my calories, right now it's set at 1200 but I could easily eat more.
What do you think?
