Mindful Eating

I was sitting here eating my cottage cheese - and I stopped myself mid way because I took notice that I was just stuffing it in my mouth. Ever just stop, take a bite, close your eyes and just pay attention to the taste, and texture of the food? I remember reading this article approx. 2 years ago called Mindful Habits to Eating. I couldn't find it, however, this came close to it. Pay specific attention to the S.T.O.P. method. Read it and the next time you eat, be mindful of what you have in your mouth!

Yes, even though I don't eat a LOT, I used to just shovel it in my mouth.

I got accustomed to eating fast while in the military and that is a hard habit to break.

Major NSV when I was able to break it though.

Yup...I need to learn how to just stop.......put the food in my mouth - feel it, chew it, taste it, savor the moment, and then swallow...... (totally didn't sound appropriate) but it's the truth! I have to stop listening to my hunger demons and slow it down!

You're giving me a 9-1/2 Weeks flash back.

Some tips for slowing down your eating and being more mindful of your food:

It is important not to multitask when you eat. Do not eat in front of a computer or tv. Sit at a table and pay attention to the food that you are eating.

Put the fork/knife/spoon down after every bite. Do not prepare the next bite until you have swolled the one you are chewing.

Try to chew food until it is mush. It could be 4 chews, it could be 12 chews. But don't swallow until the food is mush.

Have you ever tried "chewing" a liquid? Give it a shot. It makes you stop and taste the liquid you are consuming instead of just guzzling it down.

    :)
