Bad KNEES!!!!

I was just wondering if anyone else is experiencing a crazy amount of pain in their knees. I’ve been to the doctor & he tells me that I am fine. My knees Snap, Crackle & Pop oh and Crunch every time I bend them. I have been taking 4 Glucosamine Sulfate double strength pills & haven’t notice any difference. I have been riding the bike & playing the Wii fit for exercise but, want to pick it up this week with my 10 Min Trainer & Jillian’s 30 Day Shred but, already know it’s going to be a killer on my knees.
If anyone is going through the pain I am or had been can you please offer some advice? Maybe there’s something I can take or do to prevent so much pain. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yikes, I'd say find a new doctor!! Sounds like there might really be something going on.
Otherwise, I sometimes have knee pain if I start working out after a long hiatus, but I usually get pretty good relief just by icing them when they are sore and MAYBE popping an anti-inflammatory after a workout.0 -
I have the exact same thing and all I can do is walk because of it.
Any squating or if I put to much weight on it makes my knee start to hurt.
 I haven't been to the doctor because I didn't know if it would really do any good.
It is just so frustrating!!0 -
My husband is a runner and has bad knees. He says knee braces are invaluable! He wears one on both knees every time he runs. He's not able to run at all without them. Get a couple of good ones, pop some Aleve, and give it a try. Good luck to you!0

i have bad knees too. Unfortunately, i don't really have any suggestions. I did the 30 day shred one day and could barely get through it, not because it was too hard but because my knees couldn't handle the lunges and squats. I hope you find something that helps.0

Pleae be careful with self prescribing knee braces. I have bad knees as I have broken both of them and had surgery on one. It takes working up slowly. I would see if you can get some physical therapy for a couple visits at least so that they can suggest some exercises for you. Knee braces may help but they can also do a lot of damage. Some parts of your legs will get stronger while other parts continue to get weaker, that is where the popping comes from, your muscles being unbalanced.
It is also important to have the right type of shoes. I pronate heavily since I have had surgery so I had to switch to a different brand. I went to a mom and pop shop that videos you while you walk on a treadmill and fits you with shoes.
Good Luck.0 -
I too have one very bad knee - you should seek a second opinion. I have OA in both knees but one knee I had to have MAJOR surgery on in 2001 and didn't know for quite sometime if I would be able to walk again. Luckily I am able to however there are a lot of things I cannot do exercise wise. I take NSAID before I work out, wear a knee brace and ice it. These might help but I would still get a second opinion0

Thank you all for the feedback.
I will definitely look for a 2nd opinion.
I will also try icing them & taking an Aleve. My right knee is the Queen of pain so I wear the knee brace on that one but, it really doesn't help much.
I am getting a new pair of Shox tonight b/c I need as much support possible if I even want to attempt getting through the workout videos.
I will see how this week goes doing these new additions & hopefully can find a new doc. The 1st doc told me to do leg lifts to strengthen them but, I am over weight & need much more the a leg lift workout! I will post back if I notice any change!
Thank you all again!!!! :flowerforyou:0 -
Ha! I'm actually on my way to see a knee specialist to go over my
MRI pictures! Oh deary0 -
Good luck with the knees. Mine make a lot of noises too but don't really cause me any major pain, they get achy if I run too much, but I imagine most people have that problem. I am working on increasing leg muscle strength to help with the knees.
I have to comment on Nike Shox, some people love 'em and swear by them, but they are more of a fashion shoe, even though they do lable them for running, but there really are a LOT of better choices for support. Ask at the store. Personally I swear by Asics, but that's me. I did notice last season on Biggest Loser pretty much all of the contestants wearing Asics too.0 -

I don't know about the Shox but I also swear by Asics. They have given me back the ability to run.0 -
Just thought I would share some positive insight on bad knees. At my heaviest weight I really struggled with knee problems very similar to your symptoms. I saw a physical therapist and a medical doctor, both said nothing was wrong with me and gave me excercises to strengthen the muscles around my knees. What really helped was working out and losing weight to relieve the pressure on my knees. I started doing a combination of running and walking for as long as I could stand it (run for 4min, walk for 2) and, yes, my knees ached, but I pushed throught it. A lot of stretching before and after helped and so does Aleeve. Now, I run 2.5 miles without stopping, have run several 5ks, and I have very little knee pain. I'm not saying that you may not have a serious medical ailment to your knees but good excercise, like running, will improve the muscles in your legs and retrain the way your body distributes weight to your knees to help relieve pain. I just now have ventured into lunges and squats but for the past 2 years I've avoided them because they put a lot of strain on your knees and if they're weak, it is very painful. I would build up your endurance and strength through activities that don't cause you pain and eventually you'll be able to do lunges. Good luck.0

I have spoken to many women who have the same issue . . . too much weight on knees creates all the noise and pain. Many woman are not built to do lunges and squats also though, I started wearing a brace and eliminated the lunges from my routine and felt much better. Not perfect but much better!0

if you believe that your shoes are contributing to the problem, then I would suggest having a pair of running/training shoes specially fitted for you - serious runners do this as even the most expensive shoes might just be the wrong ones...
but saying that, knees are a tough one, I have had creaky knees my entire life due to basketball and volleyball - you must just avoid the exercises that hurt the most, such as leg extensions. You should be ok with squats, it's a misconception that squats are bad for your knees. Bad form and overloading weight when doing squats is what causes injury, so have someone who knows what they are doing evaluate your form first.0 -
I agree with you all, I know I am having so much pain due to my weight gain, like you Alexpapa I've always had bad knees from playing basketball & softball. I would get water in my knee & keep on trucking w/o even getting my knees checked out.
I did get the Shox b/c alot of people swear by them like you said leckel, I have a Nike outlet over by me & my $120 pair of shoes ended up being $69.00 plus when I did my workout tonight I felt feally good. I did skip the squats tonight & replaced them with double jumping jacks.
trmiller, that's what my doc recommended as well doing leg lifts to strengthen the muscles around my knees. I won't lie I do do the exercises but, I want to do so much more. I guess I should listen to my body & build myself up to the harder workouts. I was doing P90X & completed the whole thing, had great results but, Friday nights I dreaded b/c it was Leg night!!!! I will take it slow, maybe stick to the bike & try building my way up to 25 mins w/o stopping
I thank you all again for taking the time out to respond, have a great night!0 -
I say find a new Dr....I have had 5 knee surgeries on my left knee....so I have to be very careful with any workout that do. But if you are experiencing that much severe pain something sounds off.
Another thing, if you are like me you love to wear high heel shoes...but take them off, find some cute flat shoes, it really makes a difference.0
