I can lose 2lbs a week I can reach my goal right on my birthday, which would be amazing. It just feels such a long way off and I get so impatient. Does anyone else have trouble staying focussed because it's not quick enough for you? I know it took a long time to get this way, and 39 weeks is nothing to make an effort for really, and it's for my wedding. How do you learn the patience required to be in it for the long haul? I think I can't imagine myself ever looking better either, and can't find any photos of me from when I was smaller.

I just keep saying to myself, it doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you keep on moving, also said while I'm running! I'm just worried I'll cave in like I always do, I've said so many times that it's different this time, but it never is. The only thing this time is that I'm exercising regularly, so maybe it is different this time.

  • Just keep at it. I have issues with follow thru and motivation too.
I had a friend say to me recently, when I was complaining about my weight, again, that nothing tastes as good as skinny feels and that's been stopping me from over indulging.....as for the exercise thing....still having to force myself but I never regret it once I get going!! I have a pair of jeans I wanna fit back into hanging on my bedroom door, good motivation as I head out the door in the mornings :)
    Good luck!!

What has helped me is that I'm taking it off quicker than I put it on. Now when I lose 10lb I can say, this is what I looked like a year ago. It helps motivate me to see if I can subtract another year of bad habits.

Do you have any mini goals? Something to look forward to in the short term? That's another thing keeping me going. My mini goals are 10% of my weight. So my first would be after I lose 24ish lbs. My first goal is around 220 and I'm about half way there. So I try to remind myself that I managed to get half of that, so I can get the next.

So long as the numbers on the tape measure are going down, then I know what I am doing is working, so if I quit, it will stop working and I'll gain it back. That's how I see it.

I lost 2 lbs in the last month.
8 lbs in the past 3 months.

It doesn't always come off as fast as you want it to, but if the scale isn't going up and the clothes start fitting better, youare doing something right. Don't get discouraged :)

It is sooo hard to be patient and stay motivated. I have lost and gained the same 50 pounds ( and their new friends) for most of my adult life. Finally at 57 I am within 2 pounds of my goal weight and feel confident that I will never gain it back. The difference this time is that I quit looking at this process at a diet with an end in sight. This is a new, healthier lifestyle that is with me for the rest of my life. I have focused on eating healthy foods with an occasional treat, moving everyday, drinking lots of water, and reteaching myself to look at food as nutrition. I eat when I am hungry, not when I am bored, tired, frustrated, angry, to celebrate, etc.
I make sure that the foods I am eating are only foods I truly love. I really enjoy food and don't feel at all deprived like I did on the diets I have tried.
I keep reminding myself how much better healthy feels.
I keep trying new ways to stay active that I find enjoyable. We started kayaking last year and I love it!!
I log my food and exercise daily to keep myself accountable.
I have lost over 70 pounds since I started and no long feel frumpy, fat, and frail. If this old lady can do this , anyone can once they find what clicks for them.
Good luck and hang in there.
I check in here daily to read suggestion and especially success stories for motivation.
  • I wake up most mornings thinking 'It's four more months until the new year. How can I keep thinking about calories all day every day for four more months?

(I say four because of the impending zombie apocalypse on 12/21/12, of course... gotta be able to run faster by then!)

Nothing is easy... you do what you feel is best for you and your health... just remember what your goal is and keep on pushing forward!
