WTF - Wearing a garbage bag???

Today at the gym I saw a woman working out. She used the weights first. Then she goes over to the shelves where people keep stuff (cubbie boxes instead of lockers) and pulls out a black garbage bag. It has arm holes and a head hole. She puts it on over her t shirt, puts on a long sleeve sweat shirt, and puts on a knitted winter hat. (It's summer here btw) Then she jumps on the treadmill. That can't be a good idea. Thoughts?

Trying to sweat off weight. Homemade sauna suit. Never seen someone do it but yeah, I'd have a hard time not laughing out loud at her.0

She wants to sweat. False impression of weight loss, don't do it, lol!0
-
She made her own sweatsuit. I would never do that, just so I could sweat more? I'd be afraid of heat exhaustion or dehydration. That sounds very dangerous.0

maybe she was trying to beat a drug test0

That's my guess. Either that or she's a total idiot.0 -
I do this all the time!0

My son did that years ago to drop weight to play on the City Football league. It worked for him. He lost enough to get on the team and then the practices and playing kept him on track.
He did not wear a sweat shirt over it and wore shorts. I would die if I were to do that.0 -
Wait....what? You mean you all dont excersise with trash bags on?0

She sounds trashy.0

That's cool if you're a boxer trying to cut a couple pounds real quick to make weigh-in. Otherwise it's just stupid. Heat is the enemy of muscle recovery. Why the heck does your body even sweat when it's working hard? Why? Because a cooler body works better and can burn energy easier. Your body has complex systems to ensure that it stays at around 98 degrees. I guess all of the sudden this lady knows better. She'll weigh less till she gets a drink of water after working out. Stupid is as stupid does.
Someone go outside and disconnect the radiator on her car and see how much better her car runs when it overheats.0 -
Wrestlers use it for cutting water weight, that or vinyl suits. Why someone who doesn't do competitive sports with weight classes would do it, I couldn't tell you.0

Why wear a garbage bag? Has nobody heard of the pull out method?0

Jules!!!! LMFAO!!!0

At one gym I used to go to, a pretty skinny, older guy used to wear a sweat suit and birkenstocks to the gym and he'd workout in the weight room. Was an interesting sight to see.0

Kidding aside, a friend's wife does this often. They have their stationary bike out in the garage, which isn't air conditioned (so it's always 100+ degrees in there this time of year), and she'll go out there and do an hour on the bike in a plastic sauna suit. Whatever.0 -

Maybe she does. Maybe she's a boxer or wrestler? They weigh us in for pro cheerleading each week...
Or a fitness competitor?? I'm sure she had reasons even if they seem silly0 -
It doesn't work! I have done it plenty of times for weigh-ins but the water weight will always come back. DOn't do it it's a false reading on the scale. I don't do it any more and i'm trying to do it right this time.0

Yup in high school, my fiance and all his wrestling team would don the garbage bags under their sweatshirst and run to make weight. It's only temporary.0

Only if you drink water again. If you can do this and never drink any more water the weight will stay off forever.0 -

She may be trying to shed some water weight. Maybe she's a fighter, or a body builder/fitness model. Maybe she had too many cocktails over the weekend. Cutting water weight is a science, and isn't dangerous when done properly.0 -
Standard operating procedures if you need to make weight for wrestling, boxing or MMA. Other than that, you are one drink of water away from putting all "the weight" back on.0
