Sushi help? Advice please...

Hi guys, I'd love to have some sushi for lunch.
I usually get 4 peices (3/4 inch thick, about 1inch in diameter), filled with chicken/avo or crumbed prawn/avo - it is white sushi rice, with nori seaweed around them.
How many cals/what should I allocate for this - as I can't seem to find anything on MFP to suit??
Any ideas...? Many thanks in advance!!

  • AFC is a grocery store sushi brand that offers a lot of nutrition facts on MFP. Just do a food search and type in AFC and you'll probably find some good comparable choices.

    I worked it all out individually, and it came to only 374 cals roughly, so I am happy with that. YAY. Cost effective lunch - cals and dollars wise :)

    I know one roll from sushi sushi for just avocado is 140 cals, i found it once on google. There actually not as good as you would think!!

    Watch how much rice they use, realize there is maybe half a teaspoon of sugar in the rice seasoning, the nori is almost nothing, so you are left with estimating the meats and veggies inside.

    Spicy mayo is equivalent to mayo, the eel sauce would be equivalent to any sweet sauce like a teriaki or a honey bbq in terms of calories.

    With the majority of the calories coming from the rice, there will be a wide variety between sushi, between 150-300 calorie difference based on rice and sauce choices.

    If it's just that you're probably looking at 200-250 calories for 4 pieces. If they have sauces on top, you can probably double it.

    Keep in mind that the 'crumbed prawn' is likely shrimp tempura - battered and deep fried.

    A standard roll of this will not be more than 150-200 calories.

    All I'm saying is, develop a taste for the simple. Try to mix nigiri or sashimi in the mix to reduce the rice. Make sure to have a bowl of miso soup to curb the appetite before the meal, use your wasabi, and eat ginger between pieces.
