Cold and flu tablets

Options
I've had a head cold for 3 days and having cold and flu tablets 3 times a day.
I'm struggling to get to my cals (I'm on 1880 but never make it there anyway and usually sit at 1300-1500) and force feeding myself (particularly at dinner last night) because I'm not making past 1200 if I don't eat all my food.
Is it because I'm sick or the tablets as they are appetite suppressing? Or both?
I don't want to make crap choices just to get me there and I'm also struggling with the volume of food because I'm making better choices.

I have issues with low blood pressure so I don't want to go below 1200. I also haven't exercised because of that as I don't want to lose any cals.

Cold and flu tablets are not usually appetite suppresants....I am guessing you are feeling less hungry because you are sick. Don't force feed yourself, your body will be guiding you as to how much you should be eating. I was told by a health and nutrition specialist that when you are sick you should eat lots of different coloured foods (ie salad) as this has a lot of the nutrients and vitamins that your body needs to aid it in getting better. I always feel less hungry when I am sick also, but I hope that what I have written helps you a little.

Your body needs fuel in order to fight off the cold, try little and often carbs and protein.
And plenty of fluids will prevent dehydration and stop your blood pressure from falling.
    :flowerforyou: get well soon xxxx

    drink lots of fluids.

Fluids will help both with your cold, your congestion, thin out your mucus, protect your throat,
and help with your low blood pressure.

    fluids
    fluids
    fluids.
    and
    then,
    more fluids.

i have super low blood pressure, like 90/50, for my whole life,
but, it is not a problem. It is *my* normal blood pressure. Tons of ppl have lower blood pressures and celebrate this, and feel great. (if it is THEIR 'normal', for them)

Low blood pressure is 'normal' in many young people, especially in young females, and usually is NOT a problem.
odd. I wonder why you think your low blood pressure is NOT great? when it is mostly associated with an old age free of illness?

but, whatever. DRINK FLUIDS, FLUIDS, FLUIDS, and i hope you get well soon.

and calories eaten do not really impact one's B/P by the way, nope. Calories eaten can eventually impact your blood pressure, after years of obesity or something,
but, one day of high or lower calories doesn't change the cardiovascular system. Your B/P is more related to your size of your arteries, and the amount of fluid in them, similar to your garden hose. doesn't matter what is IN the hose, it's the PRESSURE between size of hose,
and the amount of fluids IN the hose.

that is why it's called "blood PRESSURE". It doesn't matter whether you ate a cake or a green bean, it's the FLUIDS vs the size of the hose.

if there is a decongestant in your medication (pseudoephedrine, ephedrine, phenylephrine) then it's possible that they could be contributing to your appetite supression as they are stimulants. But it's probably mostly because you are sick. Since you don't feel like eating much, make sure that you are eating nutrient dense foods when you are eating so that your immune system can function at it's best. Sometimes liquids can be easier to get down so maybe try a smoothie or something. And someone already said this but fluids, fluids, fluids! Also, make sure you are getting enough rest, I wouldn't do very much exercising until you're well (maybe a little would be ok, but when I am sick i don't do a thing). Feel better!

I'm up to 15 cups of water already! lol. I'm huge on the WATER WATER WATER when you are sick so that may also be why I'm not hungry. Tummy full of water. I get bad sinus so I know the importance of fluid mucus and such.
I've been pretty good with getting mostly fruit and veg as snacks to make sure I get everything I need every day so I haven't stopped that.
Some time out in the sun really helped. I nearly got to 1880 with the help of some ice cream and fruit for dessert and a lovely steak dinner my mum cooked me.
I felt well this arvo so I did 15 minutes of stairs just to get warm. It's winter here and the august winds have come in....

I usually have 120/70 bp but my family Dr had put me on blood pressure tablets (very low dose) to help with migraines but it kept dropping to 100 and I'd feel faint or collapse. That's why I don't want it to go low.
I was just worried if I didn't have enough cals that my body wouldn't function properly particularly while sick. I'm really aware of the 1200 thing.

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

As flu season rolls around, people begin worrying about how to keep themselves, and their families, healthy. One popular natural remedy at this time of year is oregano oil, used to fight cold and flu symptoms.
