I am determined to do it this time too. I have no excuse for being overweight except that I like food and I don't like exercise :(

I finally found an exercise I love - Martial Arts - it is GREAT exercise. I've been doing for over a year and have lost nothing as far as pounds. I have gained strength and endurance but I'm still fat over the muscle, however, it is very expensive and at this time, I have to take a break from it for a few months. I have been out of class for a month and the inches are creeping on very quickly! I seriously don't want to lose the muscle I've gained. :(

I signed up for a 5K Mud Run (go dirty girl) a couple of months ago thinking - ok I have 75 days to train for this-what a motivator!! Well, I have 22 days left & I am less fit now than I was when I signed up! I need to get moving or I am going to really disappoint myself and my team :(

I would love to get a group of friends on here to share ideas & motivate each other. I live in upstate NY and the winters are cold so I need to get moving now so I don't let the weather be an excuse not to exercise.

My first step is to start eating right. I'm trying to figure out which diet works best because there are so many types out there. I'm trying to eat more organically/natural but fall off the wagon so easy.

  • Hello, and welcome :)

You're in a great place to start making the changes that you want for yourself. There's loads of helpful advice, as well as support and encouragement on these boards.

I would say just start by making small changes, sometimes anything too drastic can be difficult to keep up. Just start moving a little more, and eating a little more conscientiously, and try to stick within your calorie limits for the day. I'm sure you'll start to see a difference in no time.

    Good luck! :flowerforyou:

    Aloha,
Find out what your numbers are, eat at a deficit, and don't cheat... you will lose the pounds...

You might want to use the spreadsheets and HelloitsDan’s instructions on weight loss. All of this is located at: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B3kFzsaVmRjmd1k4YjA1SlVWaFU/edit

I had no idea how to go about losing weight the correct way, without hurting myself and without being hungry all the time. I found out from all the knowledgeable folks here on MFP that neither situation has to occur if you are losing the weight the proper way.

Please feel free to use, copy, download anything in that folder. I believe in “Paying it Forward” as HelloItsDan says….

I wouldnt recommend any actual DIET, persay. My suggestion would be to just start watching your calories, cut the major things that are really not great (like for me I need to cut out soda...i do drink diet tho). Cut down on a lot of the extra snacks and foods that arent necessary and save them for specific days, like your cheat day. Slow and stead wins the race and something DRASTIC and QUICK isnt always the best way. Your diet is how you eat, NOT a specifc way of eating for a short amount of time.

I have quickly come to realize that it is all about lifestyle changes and choices. My willpower is really NOT that great...I LOVE FOOD! I LOVE TO EAT!! If it tastes good, I LOVE IT!! But, I also have realized that just because you eat it, doesnt mean you have to splurge...doesnt mean you have to have it all the time.

It is tough but, start butcutting back and cutting out certain things and that should be a good start! Feel free to add me if you'd like! :)

Yeah i wouldnt go for a strict diet right away. Just start logging what you eat and set My Fitness Pal so that you lose 1lb a week. that will give you a good starting point. Also try to keep your protein high, if you can get it to be 30 to 40% of your daily calories you'll see some great results. Im from Buffalo also so i know what you mean about cold winters, but once you get started and get in a healty routine it gets easier and easier!

Not really advice but encouragement. You CAN do this. Just start today. You are worth it and can be successful. Everyone here on MFP is here to cheer you on and answer your questions.

YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY MAKE IT WORK THIS TIME!
  • I have to agree with those above, set your calories for losing 1 pound a week. I did it and it works. Keeping note of everything you put into your mouth makes a world of a difference. I am a candy addict, no joke and when I started to SEE the empty, wasted calories on that it opened my eyes and has made me pick better choices for snacks, etc. You can do this, you will do this and add me if you like. I wish you all the best and take it one day at a time.
