Shin splints, advice please!

I ran track in middle school and always had problems with shin splints. I am currently walking every night (not running) and just started level 2 of 30 Day Shred. I started noticing a little bit of pain yesterday but thought it was just muscle pain. I just finished my shred workout and I am now icing my shins because they hurt so bad! It has been a long time since middle school but I am pretty sure it is the same thing, I just don't remember what my coach had me do about them. Any advice from the experts or anyone that has dealt with these before would be much appreciated! Should I keep icing? Should I stop doing the 30 day shred? Any special stretches? I have recently lost 35 lbs, and I currently weight 206 if that helps at all. And the pain didn't start untill after I started walking every night (only about 1/2 mile tops). Thank you!

Get a mat and put it on the floor
Take your shoes and socks off and kneel on the mat
Then straighten out your feet on the foot, and slowly let you *kitten* sit down on top of your heel/ankle
Them slowly/gentle rock your *kitten* side to side
Thats the best one for me0 -

shin splints are usually because the calfs or other parts are to tight and the splints over compensate. rest and try to do some pressure point and stretching of your calves regularly. it worked for me0

When I had them in college, I was told to lay out a towel, and then scrunch it up with your toes. From what I remember it's supposed to strengthen them? Sorry it's been a lonnng time since college:).0

When you're sitting at your desk or anywhere for that matter, put your feet flat on the floor in front of you and tap your toes. Do it as often as you can.0

Thanks for the tips everyone! What about using ice? I never know when to use cold or when to use heat... or does it not matter?0

In college, they would stick my legs in a tub of ice water for fifteen/twenty minutes. Not sure if that's changed.0 -
Thanks everyone!0
