Avocado causing stomach ache?

I've added half a small avocado to my smoothies in the mornings the past 2 days and for some reason its been giving me mild stomachaches like an hour or two after eating it. I love them and want to continue eating them for all the benefits and healthy fats. The stomachache usually passes after awhile and I don't notice any symptoms other than that. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm hoping I don't have to stop eating them!

I don't have any issues with eating them but I know when I went for my Food Panel (blood test) it is one of the foods they test for to check intolerances, so apparently it's common enough that it made it to the "basic food" list.
I guess it's just a personal decision, does the taste of avocado outweigh the stomach ache? Yes? Then maybe just limit yourself as to how often you eat them.0 -
I've had this happen as well, after I ate a whole avocado. I believe it was due to the richness of the (healthy) fat in the avocado, after I had been on low fat diet. I felt nauseous for hours. I haven't been able to try an avocado since then four months later.0

Well, the stomachache only lasted for a couple hours today and now I feel great. Maybe I'm just not used to it? I will give it a few more days and see how I feel and if I don't feel better, maybe try cutting it down to just 1/4 of an avocado a day instead of 1/2. Thanks!0

It could be that you are not used to having that dose of fat, but avocados also have a good amount of fiber which can cause discomfort if you are not used to it. If it is either of those problems, you will probably get used to it in a little while.
I eat half an avocado in my salad just about every day, yum!0 -
I too get nauseous and achy intestines for several hours. I find I need to force myself to burp to get any relief. This for me is a digestive issue. I do have gallstones but it wasn't always this way. I even have the symptoms if the avocado is in a recipe vs eating alone. I'm going to try reducing the amount eaten at one time and adding digestive enzymes before totally cutting them out. Eating Paleo I need all the good fats I can find.0
