HRM Garmin vs Suunto

Hello all! I've been having issues with Polar HRM. ( I've been through two defective ones in the past month, argh!!) now I am researching Garmin and Suunto, the only two others that are available in the store near me. I would like to use them for walking, hiking, crosscountry skiing, indoor rowing, elliptical and housecleaning ; ). I'm mostly interested in calorie burn but, distance and pace would be fun to see too. Can anyone give me some suggestions on an easy to use and easy to read HRM from the above mentioned? I'd love some feedback on this one. THANKS!!!

I've owned a couple of Garmin Forerunner GPS/HRMs and have been very happy with them, presumably their HRMs would be of comparable quality. Having said that, my scuba diving computer is a Suunto and they too enjoy an excellent reputation in terms of product quality - they're a little pricier than a comparable Garmin. I couldn't say if they're worth the difference or not.

Either will probably give you years of reliable service (I'm surprised you have problems with Polar, they're a pretty reputable company too)

I do hiking and both Suunto and Garmin are coming out with new, better GPS HRM in the next few months. The Suunto one is $$$ but the Garmin one will be cheaper, I'm very tempted by it.

My polar has been acting up as well so I've been looking.
