Too much beer and not enough exercise

Hi, I would like to say hello to all and highglight the subject as my problem. I seem to eat well but I simply drink eat to much and exercise too little. I aim to change that and haven't had a drink for 4 days but have been out exercising more for the past 4 days. I managed, with help of my daughter to resist some very nice Belgian imported beer tonight. It was going to be my excuse of a "treat" or "only drink at the weekends". She said I have not earned these treats yet. I told her just drinking at the weekend is better than every day and she said not drinking at all is better than weekends only. So, so far I am exericsing more and not drinking. I feel livelier and brighter even after a few days and I expect I can keep this up. Yes, I will still have a beer now and again, I might even have two but only when the occasion calls for it, and not the excuse. Cheers!

Good for you, it's a great start! Drinking is not one of my struggles, I would rather have a piece of cake

I actually run a successful craft beer review site and review beers on Youtube so giving up beer except for one on the weekend that I review has been really hard. There were nights when I would review 2-3 beers that had like 600-700 calories a piece in them!! I wonder why I gained so much weight? Its hard but it does get easier.0

I'm in a similar boat, and have managed to cut back on volume, but still enjoy a nice craft brew at least 3 times a week. I make up for it by exercising a bit more on days that I have a pint or two. Rogue Dead Guy Ale is my current fav, though I'm usually more of a porter or stout guy0

Cheers guys. I fought back a lot of temptation today but managed to avoid.0

Hello, alcohol was a big issue for me as well. I thought I would be able to have a drink here and there or enjoy them on vacation but come to find out, that is not the case for me. What was really pathetic is when I stopped drinking how often I thought about drinking, that was a big surprise to me.
I have not had a drink now in 4 years and 48 weeks and it is the single best thing I have ever done for myself. I never EVER thought I would enjoy a life with out drinking but I can honestly say it is even better now. I also know if I had a child that was asking me not to drink, I would look at that long and hard.
Good luck and I hope you can find a medium that works for you.0 -

Thanks. I am looking to kick the excuse I have been summing up as having one as a treat or just at weekends. I think the best course is not at all. And yes, my little girl's words of wisdom were perhaps the strongest persuasion I've experienced.0 -
I've only been at this for two weeks but am also a bit of a beer monster. (Well, ciders, but same dog.) The MyFitnessPal app on my phone is great for helping me to save up the calories I need for my beer when I go out. Burn off 200 calories on the running machine and have fruit for breakfast and a light lunch and there's the 800 calories you need for 4 pints. It's not sustainable for every day, but once a week I don't think it will hurt.0

I drink some kind of alcohol every day. I make enough room in my diet for the calories.0

I'm also working to cut back on alcohol. I think I will lose most of my excess weight just from cutting my beer calories. I will also say this...I switched from beer to mixed drinks last summer, and I lost five pounds. There is something about beer that just makes me feel fuller and more bloated, and I swear it packs on the pounds more than other drinks.0

I love beer also so I know how hard it can be to slow down on it and lite beers are not the same. I have been able to stay away for three weeks now an with my wight loss goal I need to stay away.
I wish everyone good luck on the journey.

I'm trying to only have beer on special occasions. I'd love to have some every time I watch a ppv, but then I would never lose weight. :grumble: I'm also assuming I'll have to go back to drinking light beer as well like when I was on Jenny Craig. That's unfortunate cuz I end up drinking more, and therefore, spending more money.

Your daughter sounds adorable....and very smart
I have a glass of red wine every night. I think I would make better progress if I didn't and every once in awhile I try to break the habit, then get very grumpy, ha! (I actually sleep better without it though!) Hope you don't mind if I friend you....your posts might motivate me to give the wine a rest!0 -
Been completely alcohol-free for years at a time in my younger serious athlete days, but now that I'm older I can enjoy what I love in moderation without going nutso and piling up the calories. That American cultural/puritan moral judgement doesn't enter into it all for me (not American). A glass of good red or a craft beer is just part of dinner and is factored in to my daily caloric intake.0
