Start Date - September 4th, 2012

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this site and I'd like to introduce myself. I got sick March of last year and was in the acute care center for five weeks. I had pericarditis. The lining of my heart was inflamed and it was causing stress on my heart. At that time I was size 8. Well, with all the medications that were pumped into me, the weight started to come back. I was on meds for about six months and I kept getting bigger and bigger. I even asked the doctor, "Does this medication cause weight gain?" His reply, "Oh yes." I'm healthy now, off the meds, but am much heavier.

I want to get myself back into shape and this site is a great place to meet people, like me, who want to lose weight. I also like the fact that we can keep track of our food intake and our activities throughout the day. I'm excited!

I have started to watch my food intake however September 4th is my real start date. It's summer after all and I'm psyching myself up to be totally dedicated on that day.

I also bought the Fitbit Ultra Tracker and am keeping track of my activity. What an interesting device. I love it.

So any advice, comments, suggestions, or just talking would be great for me. It will certainly motivate me and I hope to do the same for you as well. Good luck to all of you on your quest to lose weight.

    I'm already started, but on September 4th I plan to start 30Day Shred so we're both starting /something/ that day. (=

    Start today, even if it's just tracking your calories and exercise!

    I've tried setting a future start date and here's what would happen: September would come and it will be Labor Day parties and birthday parties that month, after all. October would come and it will be halloween and more birthday parties, after all. (I have a huge family :-) ) November and December would be the holidays, after all. By January 1, I'd be so discouraged with myself for putting off starting and gaining weight through the Fall and Winter, that I just didn't start at all.

    I've only been doing this for a couple of weeks and already I feel so much healthier and so much happier that I'm finally starting to take charge.

  • That's good advice and I understand what you mean with holidays and parties however when I start something I'm completely committed. I need to psyche myself up for a few weeks prior and when the day comes I'm determined and nothing will stop me, parties, wine, food, NOPE no way.

    I have in the past made excuses I'll wait until next week kind of thing, and that's because I didn't psyche myself up. I need that time prior in order to succeed.

    Oh, and I am keeping track of my food and activities because I want to see the difference when I start September 4th and I'll see a huge improvement and that's motivating in itself.
