upper body joint hypermobility?

I am having trouble with working on my upper body because of hypermobility in my shoulders. Every time I try to work with it it feels like my arms are going to shoot straight out of their sockets. Even with the rotator cuff exercises the doc gave me. I know I have to strengthen the muscles around it but does anyone know of a less painful way of doing so?

Sorry to hear you're struggling! I have some hypermobility markers but nothing so severe as you. I don't know how your healthcare system works, but is it an option to go back to your doc and ask for another exercise? Or perhaps a healthcare professional like an physiotherapist or an osteopath? (It was my osteo who confirmed my suspicion re my hypermobility, for example)0

Can you get your doctor to refer to you a physical therapist to work on this? I had a similar problem with my left shoulder after I partially dislocated it. I had lots of exercises given to me by the physical therapist that help me to stabilize the shoulder - some of the exercises were done there with special equipment they had and then I had some exercises to do on my own at home twice a day. Perhaps you need a little more than just some exercises to do at home on your own.
Edit to add: Just read that SkorpionUK said something similar. Great minds... LOL!0 -
There's a HMS group on here , they're pretty helpful. I've got hypermobility everywhere bar my left elbow and managed to get pilates on prescription, which is nice and light strengthening exercises. Whatever you do, do not try yoga if you have weak flexible wrist, it's hilarious but painful.
Your doctor although, he/she has good intentions should really refer you to a physio, they can adapt exercise and suggest additional aids you may need (I've got a prostetic muscle for my hand, splints...somewhere, orthotic insoles).
To get my shoulder back in I put my hand from the subluxed shoulder on it and spin, or push against a wall. It's sore for a couple of days but it works out. Have you tried having a warm bath and taking some paracetamol as well that helps me.0 -
I'm hypermobile In most joints. What are you trying to do, and what specifically are you trying to do.0
