I am embarking on a new fitness journey and would greatly appreciate a few motivating friends.
So, I've played team sports my whole life. As I have entered my 40's, injuries have slowed me down tremendously. I now limit myself to running short distances (5 miles max per run, when I run), cycling (always, any distance) and recently started meditative yoga.
I have tracked my food for about 5 years now, and have always eaten relatively healthy (sans a year or two here and there). I joined MFP for motivation to tracking my fitness. Little did I know that there could be people who would actually ride my *kitten* to get it moving!
Point being; Thanks to the forums, I have discovered and purchased Insanity and Turbofire. I have decided I would like to start with Turbofire. I would really like to add a few friends that will actively ride my *kitten* from time to time because I tend to get bored with workouts, EASILY. My laziness will need to be overcome by motivation.
So, here is a little about me:
-- I don't have a open diary, as my food intake tends to be naturally healthy. I do have it password protected for a couple of IRL friends who wanted healthy eating motivation.
-- I tend to curse, a lot.
-- I don't have a weight loss goal. I don't feel like I need one. If I start gaining fat, then I will consider it.
-- I despise fluff and feather (or rainbows and unicorns) talk. I don't do it, and don't want to hear it.
-- I am a stickler for scientific based data.
-- I have been told that I am a pretty good motivator.
-- I tend to flirt, I don't care what gender you are.
-- I tend to ask too many questions, about everything. Mainly because I want to know why you think the way you do. Especially regarding fitness and social "norms".
-- I just really need a few good motivators right now. Real ones. Hard *kitten*. Men or women.
-- I am not bombshell gorgeous, I am not crack *kitten* thin, but I really, really like myself.
-- I currently have a labral tear in my hip joint. I had one steroid procedure done and it didn't help. The ortho dr said the next step would be surgery, but it would kill me to be out for 5 weeks. So I may whine about that periodically. I will be looking into another shot this week, though.
-- I live in San Antonio, Texas for now. I'm married, SAHW, no rugrats. We have a cat that lets us live with him. I'm thinking about going back to finish my master's in the spring. I am a science geek.
If you can find it in your heart to motivate this poor woman, I would be greatly appreciative. Feel free to send a message with your friend request or simply ask more questions and I will respond.
Thank you very, very much.

Have you tried a concept rower. There is an online logbook where you can log your rows and times. Certain times and distances are ranked and you can try and get up the ranking it is banded by age and weight. Also there is nonathlon which allows for age so the older you are the more points you get and also you can climb up the ranking.
As a science geek also I love checking the numbers then seeing how much faster I have to go to beat the person above me. If there is a gym near you they might have one and you just write down the numbers after your workout.
I also have a Garmin HRM so can track my runs on a map with heart rate, elevation and speed ( or in my case lack of speed). I use it to check average peed and also speed over certain bits when I try to go faster.
I have just finished Round the World and that was great as the team pushed each other to do bigger cal burns each day. I started on this site in July with about 300-400 every other day, during RTW i have been doing over 1000 to keep our boat near the front. It has only just finished but I miss it already; part of a team and you have to exercise whether you feel like it or not but always feel better afterwards.
This is a great site and there are loads of challenges posted, I am on 30Day Shred challenge0 -
I have a garmin 310xt with HRM that I love and track every stat imaginable. Hubby just lat night brought up rowing...lol...real rowing though not a machine! I googled that concept rower and looks pretty awesome. Do you do actual water rowing?
I'm not a big fan of the gym as I am really outdoorsy and prefer a nature setting. I need the peace of pachamama in my head! I have partaken in a couple of the cycling challenges as that is pretty natural for me. Being new to the area and not very social, running and cycling allow for me to get in some fitness without having to converse much. lol.
With turbofire and insanity, I can do those at home. Plus, they seem to be less boring than other workouts I've tested.
rowing.....hmmm...I like that.0 -
shamelessly bumping because surely not everyone is here for just weight loss! Are they?0

Count me in. I've gradually changed my eating and lifestyle over the last few years and am also looking for people to make sure I stay motivated.0

I just row on concept but son is proper rower which is why I got into it. I think the boat would sink if I got in!
Did you look at nonathlon it is great as well
We have lots of 5k runs every Sat called Park Runs all over the country which are free also loads of charity runs which are good fun, loads of people do walk/ run mixture. There are also walks. I did a 26 mile walk for the local hospice; it was a good day out0 -
I belong to a running club and cycling club here, but I seem to do more with the running club than anything else. Probably because of my location to greenways, parks, etc....I run a 5k race at least every weekend. When the weather cools (below 100 degrees F), I have noticed there are more bike rides going on. Not sure why that is. So it looks like I will be riding more with groups in another couple of months
I really like that concept 2 "concept"0 -
trying again..............0
