I have no words... other than I need to step up the search for grass fed beef.

Where do you find this stuff? They're just feeding those cows absolute TRASH and that's what we end up eating. It's upsetting that even when I'm trying to eat good quality food I can't buy it. The grocery stores are just huge corporations that only buy from other huge corporations that don't have any respect or care that this is FOOD for people. Is it like this in other countries or is it just the United States that lets this happen?

It's questionable feeding practices that make me eat meat free a lot of the time. But CANDY??
  • At least with kobe beef cows are chilled and happy!

It just drives home the point to me that I really shouldn't be eating the grains they usually feed the cows since there's no difference between that and candy apparently -- you get a less nutrient rich product either way that has a worse fatty acid profile.

I've been trying to source meat locally where the animals are being fed a proper diet but in the meantime I guess I'll try placing an order with US Wellness Meats and see how that goes. I was leery because I think all the paleo/primal blogs that link to them get a commission -- has anyone actually ordered from them before?

This was in the link roundup they do over at Mark's Daily Apple -- I can't take credit for it. lol I wonder about other countries too -- like someone said that in the UK they'd never be allowed to label something zero calories if it wasn't actually zero calories maybe they have higher standards for food as well. Dunno.

I remember watching Food Inc, the bit where they had the cows in these tiny squares of land, all fenced up and thought, oh my gods, that is horrendous. We don't have that sort of farming in the UK, but as far as what cows are fed? I don't know. There does seem to be better labelling and standards for food in supermarkets here in UK. GMO is not accepted yet, and labelling something as 0 calorie would be considered misleading advertising.

Then you're lucky and if there's ever anything that comes up in regards to food quality try and support it no matter how much it costs. Cheap food isn't cheap in the long run.

Although, I would think other countries look at us as an object lesson of what not to do. Especially since most countries provide healthcare I don't think they're so quick to screw over their population to make a quick buck or get re-elected since they still have to food the bill. I could just be naive about that though -- these corporation with all their billions (hello Olympic sponsors) probably bribe and buy their way into other countries just like they've do here?
