I understand what you are saying and I agree with you. However consider that tobacco products are still legal, and look at how much death they cause.
Ultimately it is about choice. It is my hope that as civilization advances we change this.0 -
Since I've decided to eat almost 100% clean I have been disgusted at what our government calls food. MCD's, Taco Bell, Cinnabon, KFC, Popeyes.... WHY IS IT LEGAL TO LET US EAT AMMONIA TREATED MEATS AND WOOD FILLERS?! Sometimes I wonder if there could ever be a reform for the food industry to eliminate processed foods that can be harmful to our health. Why sell it if we can die from it!
I'm with you! Let's get rid of water cause you can die of water intoxication!
Get out of here with your nanny statism BS0 -

It is true, it's all about choice. I just wish more people made the choice to be healthier0 -

no one is forcing anyone to buy anything, some people would call that communism.
be thankful for free will, it is sad what some people do with it, but it is their choice to make at the end of the day!

ooohhh..let me go make some popcorn..this could get interesting0

I don't care that they sell all the ammonia, sanitized, meat from a thousand animals stuff I just wish I could buy GOOD, WHOLESOME, NUTRITIOUS food at the grocery store too. I want my cows to eat grass, my chickens to eat bugs and my vegetables to be grown in nutrient rich soil. Cheap food is good and has it's place but we should be able to buy nutritious food too even if it costs a lot more.
REAL nutritious food though not just something with an organic label slapped on it that means nothing.0 -

The Darwin Awards exist for a reason. The food you mentioned is there because in a free country we all get to choose how, when, and what we eat. Wait for it........................even if it isn't healthy for us. So lets not try to legislate too much about forcing people to make healthy choices. Someone pass me my bacon topped TB mexican pizza please.0 -
It was just a thought, but some of you jump over the fact of that. God bless you all) and thank you for the positive and negative comments!0

Telling someone they can't have a 20oz coke is nanny state BS.
Telling food processing plants that they cannot spray ammonia on meat is not.
Unless you chose to raise and slaughter the animals yourself, you're kind of stuck with what's on the market, especially if you have limited economic means. We should absolutely have food standards. Anyone who thinks that's BS needs to read The Jungle (just the part about the food packing, the story itself is dull and political).0 -

Those who are willing to sacrifice their freedom don't deserve it.
Seriously, you think more legislation will stop people from stuffing their pie holes with unhealthy food? Reality check please.0 -

EXACTLY!
Money is tight no matter whether or not you have a job or not. Ultimately its up to the individual to make adequate decisions.
Right now, I have three gallons of homemade marinara sauce cooling in one-quart containers. It literally cost me about $5.00 to purchase everything and make that homemade marinara. Each quart represents $.60 per quart of homemade marinara. I just took out of the oven 5- 1lb homemade meatloaves (ground beef, onions, peppers, eggs, tomato, seasonings, my marinara on top that has cooked down) yields a 4oz portion at $1.07 each. I have enough meals from this batch for a total of 20 servings.
There are some people who do have difficulty simply for the fact that good paying jobs maybe out there, but are often not available to the well-trained, but to those who are fresh out of college who can get hired at the bare minimum.
I truly believe that regardless of circumstances, anyone can make the effort to make the positive steps happen. But I wont cast judgement on someone who chose to grab KFC. That might be a treat for them once per month, even after being financially frugal for that month.
If people want to make bad choices, that is still their choice to make. I guarantee you they know what they should and shouldnt be doing.
Its bad enough I have so many patients who are scared not knowing how "Universal Healthcare" is going to work. I am an Advanced Medical Biller for a living: I see the claims, I battle the insurances, I appeal the denials, Ive even sat in on procedures as well.
Each person's dynamic has a story to tell. I see it all the time when I shop at Sam's club for my bulk meats, spices and seasonings. A welfare mother who loads up on tons of junk food with her food-stamp card. Is it disgusting? Absolutely. But its not my place to say anything. Could she be making better choices? Absolutely. But, its not my place to cast judgement.
For me, I can only worry about what goes on in my home. Thankfully I have a 100% supportive husband. He knows the allergies/sensitivies I have to certain foods and I cant have them around. But, I will still make them for him when he wants them. I know that I have the control of what gets prepared, what gets consumed, etc. My husband also has control over what he consumes as well.
Ultimately each individual needs to make that call.. they have to have that wake-up call on their own. Its no different than someone who needs to lose weight. You could have three family members harping on them, but its a waste of time. The person with the weight problem needs to come to terms with it on their own. And when they do, thats when they have to make the individual decision to change their eating habits for the good.
Personal accountability is where it's at.0 -
I agree with you to a point, but as others have stated its all about personal choice. The last time government created legislature controlling food and consumption was an epic fail. Prohibition created a nasty underworld Of crime and drugs. Eating healthy is a personal choice as is eating horribly.0

Forget it.
Please do not get discouraged so easily. I think the important thing to reform is not the food industry, but people's relationship with food. The only reason why the items you mentioned are in food is because so few people demand it. Give it time and try to reach as many people a you can.0 -
