Calorie Database

Has anyone else noticed that it seems that the calorie count for foods in the data base seem a little low ? I had spagetti with meat sauce the other day and I couldn't believe how few calories it had !

I tend to use premade sauces and things and just make sure it adds up. If you make it yourself, though, you need to put in the ingredients individually to get an accurate count.

Yeah i had a white chocolate and cranberry cookie (tesco), yesterday the database said 113,
I thought that was a way too low.
I checked on t he tesco website......
    240 cals.
I guess it means some ppl are seriously deluding themselves about what they eat.

I wonder if they are the same ppl that only eat 600 cals and dont understand why they can't lose weight?

Edit; have you checked the portion size matches?
Maybe they sneak in a whole bunch of veggies to bulk it up?
I'd recomend just adding it up if you make it yourself

Most of the entries in the database are entered by users, so you will find a huge variation - some are errors and some are for different serving sizes or recipes/brands/regional variations.
I usually have a look at a few entries and pick something that comes in around the middle value.

I also noticed that sometimes it is exactly the same food, brand, portion size and everything - but it's still entered wrong. Sometimes it's completely wrong that I wonder if some people just make up what they enter. Therefore I always check the nutritional stats on the back of my food (unless generic produce) and compare it to the data entered in the database. If I find its wrong I click EDIT and change it to be correct. If it is a regional difference, or a portion size difference in the packaging - I create another entry manually.

Regarding produce - I search under "generic" and find the one that fits how I measure my food on the scale I have (grams). If it looks outrageous I do a Google search and compare.

    Hope this helps...

Thanks for the advice. I think someone put it best when they said , " calories are put in by users, and some are totally delusional about the calories they are consuming" .
