OK. So, I'm having some great success with my weight loss already after finally being at the right daily calories. My daily is 2300 which includes my exercise/activity. I do log my exercise, just so I know I'm getting 500-and-up in calorie burn.

So, my question....I'm getting as close to 2300 as possible, but I'm seeing quite often carbs will go over the amount. If I go off 173 g which is where I would be at 40% with the 2300 daily....it is really/way over. With the exercise in there, I still go over on carbs.

Why do I go over? I'm eating oatmeal, wheat noodles, grain....not all in one day...of course, but occasionally one or two of these...and then fruits...veggies.

I just wondered how to get to my daily without going over? I don't want to jeapordize my loss or results. I figured someone could help sort this all for me.

Thanks all!

Michelle

There's really no set amount of carbs we "need" (as opposed to protein for body/muscle repair and fat for hormones and such). Are you going under substantially on your other macros ?

Looking at your diary, it seems like you're getting enough of everything, if your last few days are pretty much your normal (without knowing your weight). As long as you're getting enough proteins and fats, carbs is just sort of "the rest". As long as you have energy, I wouldn't worry about going under or over.

I think that the whole percentage based way of splitting up diet is what messes people up. I wouldnt worry about it. And as the other poster said, if it aint broke . . . .

--- > You can add more protein up to 2.5g per lean KG. Anything more than this is wasted. Basically eat more protein instead of carbs to fuel weight loss. Only 3.2 cals per gram effectively

--- > Ditch the processed noodles and grain products and replace with sweet potatoes, quinoa and other whole foods. Only eat fruit imm. following exercise. Eat more veggies!

--- > Don't think of achieving some perfect calorie counting Utopia - it's not that simple. It will continually change. Sometimes your body will demand more, other times less. Some workouts you really kill it (and burn the true calories listed, other days could be half as depleting). Listen to your body, and have some realistic caloric deficit in mind to keep losing weight.

Hey there... I am by no means an expert, but just with a quick peek at your diary, the carb-a-licious things that stand out to me are cereal, granola bars, pasta, and desserts. So perhaps to get yourself under your carbs goal every day, you'll have to prioritize your carbs for the day?

Try prioritizing your complex carbs, like whole grains, fruits, veggies, and legumes, which will keep you full longer. I know it's really hard, I have to work at it each day! But I find keeping carbs down is worth it... I have gotten better results with lower carbs and a higher protein intake.

    Best of luck!

You could replace some of the bars that you're eating with something like cheese or almonds. Similarly, every other day, you could have a two egg omelette rather than cereal. Those two changes alone would cause a shift away from carbohydrates and toward protein and fat. On balance, that's a positive change in my view.
