Michael Thurmond's Body Makeover

Hey!

Has anyone tried Michael's Thrumond's Body Makeover? Yes, it is a diet meant to lose weight fast, something many will not stick with and will gain each pound lost right back but my question: does anyone have anything POSITIVE to say about it?
My parents started about two weeks ago, they have much more weight to lose than me but they are losing it, they look good, they feel good and overall seem happier. I gained a lot of weight FAST due to thyroid cancer and cannot budge, no matter what I do I do not gain I do not lose.....thought maybe something like this could kick start my metabolism back into gear?

MFP provides you with the necessary tools to create a calorie deficit and lose weight. YOu don't need to spend money on a "diet" to accomplish this.

That being said, I don't know what this specific diet is as I couldn't find anything but marketing hype on the website.

Lastly, you do not need to "kickstart" anything including your metabolism. Trust me, it's still working.

Eat at a calorie deficit, eat mostly nutrient dense foods, and exercise.

Do this with patience and consistency and you will win.

    The only answer you need.

I tried it. I wasted my hard-earned money for a crash diet that left me with loose skin and a crabby attitude. Oh yeah, and I gained the weight back. It did prepare me, though, for measuring and weighing my food. But if you do try it, be prepared for a lot of "no" foods...

I understand and appreciate your advice only your thyroid controls your metabolism and I have no thyroid.
I def. didn't plan on paying for anything, just eating the foods reccommend on the diet.....I have always only ate the number of calories MFP calculates and my results are nothing.
I love this quote you put "Do this with patience and consistency and you will win" only I have for over 6 months now.....
    Thanks again

You mention that you've been dieting and exercising for 6 months. Have you also been using MFP for 6 months or is MFP a new addition?

I tried the plan after a co-worker lost all their weight on it - I did well for the first month but it was too restictive for me.

If you are a different letter than your folks, get your infomration from them - no need to buy it again if your parents have the plan. Or photocopy their plan if you are the same letter.

All the best. Congrats on your recovery as well. I have an aunt who is also a thyroid cancer survivor!!

Yes, just can't seem to get my dosage right! I know that should help but my docs are not ready to raise my meds any higher as they are already higher than the "norm".

Have you seen the man's stomach? If it works, why does he have a freaking pot belly?

I did it in 2006. I still have all the materials from it. I don't remember having a calorie limitation, but I do remember having extremely small portions of certain food groups.

I think some of the principles of the program are similar to MFP principles: having certain portions of macronutrients, a lot of water consumption, and a very very low sodium diet (but 6WBD is not any sodium at all). HOWEVER, it is extremely demanding and time consuming to prepare everything. Do you want to take the time to make no salt ketchup?

The basic premise is this: consuming at least a gallon of water a day + having relatively no sodium intake = weight loss...specifically, water weight loss...which is why you gain it back as soon as you stop.

I think low sodium and high water consumption are generally good things, but in my experience any diet that has a lengthy list of restrictions is not sustainable in the long term (i.e. past 6 weeks). I've found success in incorporating logical principles from all my past "diets" into my current "lifestyle," but not to the extent that I feel deprived physically or mentally.

I understand. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism when I was 13. I know it is not the same as what you went through, but my thyroid function is basically non-existent. It took me quite a while to get on a dose that worked and kept me at good levels. I was on a pretty high dose to begin with. I actually had to switch to a generic version and that worked better for me. Good luck finding a good dosage!
