So I know that any type of soda isn't good, and I have heard that diet soda is even worst than reguar soda. But when Im hungry, if I drink so diet coke(i prefer coke zero) it helps fill me up so I dont need to eat a snack. I think that sounds like a good idea to save some calories but I dont know....

I drink Diet Coke - but only with meals. I have to watch out or I get a "sugar crash" ("aspartame crash", I suppose) if I drink it without eating something. I don't know that I can say it's any worse than anything else (water and milk are my other favorite drinks).0

I copied this from another MFP member, it made me feel better.
I don't smoke, drink, do illegal drugs or have promiscuious sex so what the hell, let me have my diet coke!":laugh:0 -
I think the carbonation in it helps my hunger. And I could be totally wrong but I think if I can save my self some calories by just having a little diet coke then having a snack that its good.0

Well, it's not the best choice. It contains lots of chemically things that are controversial, and I'm sure you know that soda isn't health food.
But, one thing at a time. If it's helping you avoid other snacks, then that's a good thing, IMHO. In the future, as you get healthier and healthier, you'll find it might be time to not have the diet coke, either. (that's what happened to me, and I used to be a two or three super big gulp diet coke a day girl.) Now I find that diet soda makes me hungrier, and I rarely (like every few months) have a small one.0 -
I agree, I LOVE Diet Coke and I am interested in hearing everyone's take on the subject. A friend of mine told me I shouldn't deprive myself of everything I love, and that one Diet Coke a day isn't bad - but that is really all I drink anyway. I was thinking about having Diet Coke as a treat on weekends or once a week at dinner.....? :flowerforyou:0

Exactly.
I lost 60 of the 63 lbs on my ticker drinking Diet Coke. But in an effort to get a little bit better, I quit drinking it last week.
One big change I've noticed is I don't have a crash, my energy level is pretty constant through out the day, and I have more energy in the evenings.0 -
I also noticed I don't get the "crash" in the afternoons now that I don't drink so much diet coke. I have 1 can (usually don't finish it) with dinner every night, and that's it. I used to drink a 2-liter of diet soda a day, so it's a huge change. It took a few days to get used to the lack of caffeine but now I am used to drinking water instead. I have 2 cups of tea in the morning to avoid the caffeine headaches.0

I've heard that diet pop isn't too good for you but provided you're not drinking ONLY that, you should be ok.
I used to allow myself one diet drink per day. The rest had to be water.
Now, I have no tolerance for it. I find it too sweet and wind up pouring most of it down the drain....0 -

i perfer the coke zero as well, but as you i find that if i drink that im not as hungry..they say that whatever is in it can make you actually more hungry, but like with you and i, i dont find that...so i still drink it, but limit myself of course...at one point i had stopped drinking any kind of soda, and then i met my fiance and thats all he had in the house besides tap water and now im back on it...i am trying to cut it out though...0 -
I just wish everyone knew all the side effects of soda- esp. diet ones.. It's reeeealy bad- worse than you think it is. If people only did a little more research- If you are not a fan of reading this type of stuff.. just go to youtube and try to find some " documentary " movies on health- " secret behind .. food / food industries etc.
I don't drink soda- not so much because of the calories- but because of the things I know about it. Yes it is much better to have the " original " one than the diet kind. If you have to choose between to evil ones' than yes - to the original. Having worked with cancer patients for many years- i just wouldn't recomend to anyone to expose themselves to this type of risks.
Maybe - you " trick " yourself with avoiding that snack . But here's the thing.
Diet coke, is still sweet, even without calories- fact.
You are drinking it- your brain is getting the massage " here's something to be processed / digested " .. well - when the " digesting- army " gets' there it finds what ? .. exactly " 0 calories- but lot's of " sweet ? '. body is confused.. sending massage to your brain back " hey - we have nothing down here-.. we need something to do .. " well.. brain sends you a " hunger " massage- need food.. have something.. so you have to satisfy now that hunger - just this time in much bigger quantity than if you just did it the first time- and on time.
The people that do lose weight with switching from original to diet- that's a fact to- but that's because they have probably a huge change in the " sugar ' intake.. if you have 2 -3 soda a day that's about 120 gm of sugar - just there.. and than you go from that to 0 - of course you will lose weight. But that fact doesn't mean that we should continue poisoning our body's with this garbage.
High fructose corn syrup-, aspartame.. or what ever other sweetners are used- why are they bad for us , and why's original better ?
Original sugar- is natural- yes it has calories but our bodies know what to do with them .. can digest it. Even if its converted to fat - it get's digested .
Artificial sweetners - and esp. HFCS.. is soooooo bad- for us- bc. it's - chemical- artifical- our body doesn't know what to do with it - so it just continues floating in our blood / and entire system.. it's poisoning us- it takes for ever to get rid of it..
Try to stay away from it- for your own good.. it's not all about the calories.. some stuff just doesn't do us any good..
I don't think cigarettes have calories either- but .. do they make us look good ? ..0 -
Diet Soda is full of chemicals. Its okay once in a while, but I hate the idea of putting that crap in my body. Try sparkling water with a bit of lemon or lime. You'll be surprised how easy it is to switch.0

Autumn13,
That was my signature!!! Glad you noticed:happy:
I just had to check out this thread just from the topic line.
But having said that, I know before I read a single response that most responses will tell us(me) how horrible, terrible, full of chemicals blah, blah, blah. diet coke is.
I totally agree with the OP I also can curb my hunger with a DC, I think one of the main reasons I feel hungry this week is because I have worked very hard at cutting down on the diet coke.
The way I look at it is this, for me I can only change so many things at once. So I have one bad habit it could be alot worse.:drinker: :smokin:0 -
