TDEE, BMR and weight loss?

So i'm 22 5'8 and about 152 pounds right now. I want to get to 120-130, I have a small frame and look better small. I haven't been able to break the 150's in months! Can someone tell me how much i'm really suppose to be eating/exercising? I'm so confused. I have heard everything from eating below your bmr, eating up to your TDEE? I'll do anything at this point.

MY TDEE is 2000 and My BRM is 1500. Both rounded down to an even number.

I'll open my food log if it helps.

Maybe this link will help. I read it the other day because I'm having a hard time understanding the whole TDEE, BMR thing too. I'm such a noob at this! Hope this helps. He seems to know what he's talking about. :flowerforyou:

What calorie level have you been at?

A good rule to go by is 20% off your TDEE, so 1600 in your case. This is a 400 cal deficit so the loss should be just under 1 lb per week. As you approach goal, a smaller deficit works better, so you might need to try a 250 cal deficit or 1750, shooting for 0.5lbs/wk (yes, it's slow, but worth it when it works and it stays off). I wouldn't go below 1600.

No eating exercise calories with this method because exercise is already calculated into your TDEE.

    Hope this helps.

ETA: Make sure that TDEE is right -- mine is around 2000 and I'm 5'4" and 115 lbs and moderately active. I would think yours would be higher.
  • I'm just as confused as the next person. Lol :(

    Hi darlin,

I was just reading your post. There are some things I've done to get these numbers to where I feel secure and confident in using what I found as a starting point. I am 59 so there is quite a bit of age diff but I am up against some of the same things. Which is basically, going with a calculation and sticking to it. I am also 5'2" and 130 right now.

You will have to decide which calculator you feel most comfy with, I've found all the ones I've tried to be so close to the same number that I just picked one and went with it. I can always adjust my numbers after say 2 weeks if I just maintain or heaven forbid, gain weight:laugh:

I'll go look at your diary and wait to see if I hear from you here;)

To be fair I would get a package deal with a Sports Nutritionist/RD who does REE/BMR via a metabolic cart. This will determine your current REE (resting energy expenditure) at your current weight. As you diet and lose weight your REE/BMR actually slows down below what a normal would be for the weight you're at. The only way to know where you are really at is to get a metabolic cart (if you are interested). It only costs about 75 dollars. A consultation with a SN/RD will help you interpret the results and set a meal plan. Then in a few months you can come back and reassess your plan. There are other ways...just sayin, this is the most accurate and best.
