root vegetables?

can anyone tell me if garlic, ginger and onions are considered root vegetables please? im confused!!

    Well ginger is a root... that much I know. Onions and garlic are bulbs... I don't think of them as root vegetables. Is there a particular reason you need to know? I feel like it would be easier to answer your question if we new the angle.

    thanks, im told ginger and garlic are ok but not sure about onions! waiting on a call from my dietician to clarify. the reason is im going for surgery in 2 weeks and need to be on a low carb, liver shrinking diet for the 2 weeks and they say no root vegetables but they dont elaborate! ive googled many times and keep getting conflicting information....could be bulbs, roots, tuberous roots, some are ok some are not! ooooooooh no wonder im confused lol. thanks for your help everyone x

    a root veg is something were we eat the part that grows in the ground hence root. is this a real question or a joke.

    Sounds like tthe prohibition is more about starchy root veg such as potatoes then, but onions do have a reasonable amount of sugar in them.
