Insanity Struggle in the moment!

Hi everyone!

Apologies if there's a thread somewhere related.......I haven't really been on much here

Anyway - I started Insanity yesterday - did the Fit Test and well..it's a start! :)

Today I was up and had half a banana and some water, then 30mins later I went and did Day 2 - Plyo cardio circuit....

I burned 586 calories according to my HRM... but...

Few issues:

- I struggled a lot with the exercises on the floor (push ups etc) ... Infact, I couldn't really do any of them...
- Embarrassing (one for the ladies), but my boobs are quite big atm and it's making it hard to jump up and down with proper form...
- Afterwards, I had a glass of milk and the veggie omelette like it says in the nutrition guide .. (ok not an issues but read on)

So far today I've had around 514 calories and it's 3pm ... I'll go get something in a minute, but I feel I'm struggling with reaching the right amount of calories for me (2200 with insanity or 1700 without insanity)

I'm going shopping shortly to get my food for the week so hopefully I can get my meals sorted at better times this week, but I'm struggling to get up in the mornings which is causing a delay in my meals .... I don't want to be eating a 400 calorie meal at like 9pm :/ .. I think things will settle down once I get back to work but that's not for another 4 weeks ...

Other than the struggles, I am actually enjoying the programme and I want to continue it - I'm determined! But is there any modification's for the exercises I struggle with, until I can get my strength up and weight (fat) down ..

Also would it be too much if I did a light weight lifting routine in the evening (insanity was at 10am) ... ?

And when will it get better! :) ..

Thanks for any advice you can offer me about this programme...... any other experiences you can share with me about your first time struggles would be helpful :)

I just started insanity myself and burn close to a 1000+ cals every workout ( i do two videos the one i'm on and the one my friend is on) and struggle to eat back all my calories. I just eat what I can. I had to start eating before I workout and including at least one high calorie protein drink after my workout or I feel sick. Usually I make my meals between 400 and 600 calories and have 5 meals a day. It helps me feel better, I also included gatorade while I'm doing insanity. I would really get sick for the whole day after and that seems to be the only thing to help me.

It's a great workout though, a week in an I already feel changes. Yes you can modify. Do girly pus-ups during the drills, don't do things as fast or as high, you have to work up to where they are at in the video. Keep in mind everyone doing it on the video is in great shape already and they even have to modify and take lots of breaks sometimes. I am finally doing real push ups but I only go down half way right now. As for being big in the chest I feel you there too. 38 D. I wear between 2 and 3 sports bras, one of which is too small, to hold the girls in. It's helps, i do the same thing when I run otherwise it hurts too much to do the exercises.

Thanks for your reply, really encouraging, I look forward to being able to do push ups even half way :)

I feel great after 4 days so far, which is promising signs (though I had felt run down yesterday after day 3...but I think that was lack of sleep cos of illness in the family, hoping my mum doesn't pass on her chest infection to me :( )

I've started wearing 2 bras like you said and it definitely feels alot better! Hopefully as I lose weight and tighten up I won't need to do that!

I'm trying so hard to eat enough calories still....but sometimes I wake up late (today it was 11.30am - I'm off atm and usually wake up anywhere between 9-12 each morning) .. I think it will get better when getting back to work but in the meantime, I'm still only eating around 1600-1700 a day .. by calculation, I should be eating between 2000-2200

I suppose in time, it will get better..I'll try and take this first week with a pinch of salt while I get Insanity embedded into my routine and my body adapts to the nutritional changes....

Heck I even struggled with some of the stretching workouts on the cardio recovery disc .. embarrassing....

This is such a big mental struggle for me..... I used to be a competing athlete, very very fit (competed at a national level) .... in the space of 2 years, I got depressed and put on 4 stone....stopped with my sport and generally was on a downwards spiral! ... Everyday I do insanity just reminds me of what I used to be like .... and how the old me would have had no bother doing this (my training was more intense at times for my sport) .... The biggest struggle I'm having though, is the sight of my stomach....you'd think I had twins with the amount of stretch marks on it ... really embarrassing - usually I look at mums and think well, they've had kids....but I haven't and I look like I should have :( .... my scars are massive and embarrassing......and I'm sure I'm going to have a bit of loose skin....which, if I get back into competing (which I plan too) .... will mean I can't wear the crop tops I ran in ... no way could I get my stomach out on the track ... the backs of my legs even have stretch marks....they are going to be terrible looking when I compete again...

I put it all down to stress and subsequent depression .... it's not the person I am....and never should have been.....however the experience has really opened my eyes to how important it is to looking after both our physical health and emotional health and I can assure you that when I get my life back to where it was, I will be making my health and my fiancés' health the number one priority in our lives!
