LIVESTRONG.COM, fact or fiction?

Many times, before i post a question here I will google it and see what the internet has to say first. Almost every single time, the first website that appears with answers is livestrong.com. It looks reputable enough, so i've always taken it as fact but i was wondering if anyone has a different opinion? is livestrong a reliable, factual information source regarding weight loss and nutrition?

Live strong is a reputable site.. It is a "Fight Against Cancer Charity" Founded by or at least is a spokesperson Lance Armstrong.

I would say yes it is reputable and fairly reliable. That being said, because there are so many opinions on everything regarding health and food, I don't rely on one source for anything I really want to research and learn more about.0

Its a reputable site but if your that worried, I would also look on other sites too to compare the facts to make sure they are equivalent to one another.0

They are reputable, and it looks like they have a fantastic marketing person who rocks at search engine optimization.1

I have looked up alot of stuff etc and their site comes up almost everytime.
From what I have seen only 1-2 times has information on their site been different them what I read anywhere else. However what was posted on there was correct by medical standards currently so it wasnt "wrong" imo.0 -
cool, thanks. there is plenty of information on that site I look at it almost every day. you are right they have an awesome marketing person, i have never googled anything fitness, health, nutrition or weight related and had it not come up first or second, ever. it's like a frickin wikipedia of fitness.
it's helpful to know that the information on that site is the same as other reputable sites.0 -
Livestrong.com is a content farm. They have people write stuff to match common search terms. Some of them are clueless.
There are many other sites like ehow and about.com
I have a browser add-in or Google option set (can't remember which) to take them out of search results.

Whenever I look up info on the internet I usually check multiple sources.0

Always get your information from multiple sources. Livestrong has some great articles on it, this is very true. Most of them sight there sources. I frequently read the article and then go directly to the sources.
If you read it on MFP chances are pretty damn good it's not true.0 -

When in doubt, fact check. I came across an article there (or somewhere) a while back where they stated that fish was a good source of protein for vegetarians :laugh:0

Saying something is "reputable" by quoting Wikipedia is kind of an oxymoron. Just sayin...0 -

This thread makes me sad. Livestrong.com is NOT reputable. I'm a Nutrition Science major, and there's a whole lot of false information on there. It's full of snake oil and even promotes useless and potentially dangerous supplements. These sites are a pain in the *kitten* when I'm doing nutritional counseling because people read them and think they know what's up. I have to struggle with them when they take me to task on it. I hear about government regulations being crap and have to convince them that no, it's actually legitimate science backed advice.
And about Demand media-it's a content mill, with all its info regurgitated from other news sources. The writers are paid by article and turn them out as fast as they can, and there is no incentive to fact check. It's pretty pathetic. They'll often put a legit journal article in their reference section when it actually refutes what their article says.0 -
what does "broscience" mean?
Broscience is the predominant brand of reasoning in bodybuilding circles where the anecdotal reports of jacked dudes are considered more credible than scientific research.
Broscience in action:
"Bro, you gotta slam 40-60 grams of waxy maize plus 20 grams of BCAA within 7 seconds of finishing your last set of squat rack curls. Otherwise, you'll go straight catabolic."
