Lightly Active?

I start school next week. I'm trying to plan ahead to make sure I'm still keeping myself healthy even through tough studying times. One thing I'm not sure about is how I should calculate my calories burned.

I'm starting school in a very large campus and my parking is far away from my classes. So I bought a bike and plan to ride my bike everyday the weather permits. But I honestly don't know how much that would burn. Even when I find out how long it takes to get to point A to point B, that doesn't account for resting times waiting for traffic.

So I'm wondering if setting my settings to lightly active would be best in this case. I worry about that because for the most part I will probably be sitting listening to lectures for most of the day, so I don't know if sporadically biking is enough to be lightly active. Any advice or suggestions?

I would consider that lightly active.

However, if you choose to go with sedentary, then remember to log all your 10-15 min bike trips as cardio!

It doesn't make a huge difference...I'd say stick as low on the activity selection as you can, better to underestemate activity and overestimate calories than vice versa, so that you can stay on top of your goals!

That's true  Can you wear those all day, though? It would be a hassle to take it on and off between each class.

Sure you can wear it all day, just a bit uncomfortable...LOL That way you may get an idea of how much you burn throughout a normal day.

I had a hard time deciding this too - I walk to work and its about a 25-30 minute walk each way carrying my laptop. At first I had MFP set to lightly active; however, I only do this on weekdays - my weekends vary in activity levels. So now I just log the walking separately - about 60 minutes of walking 5 days a week.

I would suggest this also. Wear it all day for the first week when you have your typical schedule, then average your calories. Then you will have a basic idea & can use that!
