IF CHANGED:

What do you currently do?
What were you doing?
What prompted the change?
Are you glad you made the change?

IF PLANNING A CHANGE:
What do you do and what are you switching to in the future?
What is the main reason for not having already made the change?

IF TOO AFRAID BUT WANT TO CHANGE:
What frightens you most about taking the leap?

ALL: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WHAT YOU'RE CURRENTLY DOING?

What do you do and what are you switching to in the future? I AM A BUSINESS CONSULTANT, AND I HAVE GONE BACK TO SCHOOL AS I HAVE WANTED TO BE AN ALTERNATIVE HEALTH PRACTITIONER.

What is the main reason for not having already made the change? I AM SUCCESSFUL WHICH MAKES ME VERY BUSY - IT HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE TO CARVE TIME OUT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL.

ALL: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WHAT YOU'RE CURRENTLY DOING? 13 YEARS, BUT IN THE BUSINESS WORLD FOR ALMOST 30 YEARS.

    :-)

What do you currently do? Project Accountant (recent new job) Have been in Accounting for about 8 years
What were you doing? I was a patient care tech... I did everything what an lab tech does and everything what an LPN does but give meds. (Did this for about 5 years)
What prompted the change? I was tired of not being appreciated. I got tired of people trying to rat me out for stuff that was not true. I dont deal well with BS. During the time all this was happening to me I was going to school for a Bachelors in Business Admin with a minor in marketing. On one of my evening shifts my director pulled me aside for some BS again and I was getting written up for something that again was not true. Well after that... I refused to sign the paper, walked out of her office, i was just fed up, I continued my shift for a bit and then just broke down. Then I realized why the hell am I dealing with this...I went to the breakroom....grabbed my purse...went to the nurses station and called everyone out of the crap they have been giving me... and I walked out. That was my last day there. I was shocked at myself for what I did but I do not regret it one bit. I still have that mentality today...I dont deal with any BS on any level...especially at work!!

Are you glad you made the change? 100% happy with how everything played out. I walked out on a Thursday.... I was employed the following Wednesday at MCI in the accounting department. Complete 180 change but I do not regret it. When I was at MCI I complete my Business Degree.

I have been in Accounts Payable for 8 years and just did another big career move about 3 weeks ago. I moved from Accounts Payable to Project Accountant. A complete change again. My only concern is that I hate feeling or looking lost. I hate the newbie aspect with career changes.

Career changes can workout for the best especially if you are not happy with what you currently do. I have been there and done that.

What do you do and what are you switching to in the future? Currently an accountant. Possible changes are either nutritionist, PT or physiotherapist.

What is the main reason for not having already made the change? Lack of cash flow while studying.

IF TOO AFRAID BUT WANT TO CHANGE:
What frightens you most about taking the leap? Going back to uni as a "mature" student.

ALL: HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WHAT YOU'RE CURRENTLY DOING? Been an accountant for 9 years.

    What do you currently do?

I'm currently going to school to become an RN.

    What were you doing?

Ran the accounts payable department for a restaurant franchisee. (11 Buffalo Wild Wings, and 12 Arby's stores)

    What prompted the change?

My father was diagnosed with terminal cancer back in 2010. He only lived for a month after his diagnosis.During that time, I asked him if there was anything that I could do with my life- for him. He told me "Do EXACTLY what you want to do with your life, and I really mean that." I took that to heart; started getting healthy, and decided to change my career to do what I'd always wanted- to help people.

Are you glad you made the change?

Extremely. I am much happier today than I was back then. It's never too late to change directions.

I'm looking to make a change in the next few years; so I'll definitely keep checking this thread. The problem I'm having is finding time with my current job to go back to school to get the training/education I would need to make a change, and to find a new career that I could transition into without taking a pay cut.
