I want to get something to be more accurate about what i'm burning and whatnot. I don't want to keep up this guessing game. I've never looked into anything like this before, so any input would be much appreciated!

I have a fitbit. I like it. I don't know how they work out the diffrence in calories on this site but i can burn over 10,000 calories according to fitbit and on this site they give me credit for like 500 or something. But I will take it as long as its burning something. It tracks steps, , stairs, sleep (don't know if it is too accurate on that) and i love the little messages like you are the stepmaster, WOOT!! that cracks me up.0

I'm on the hunt for something too. I've been leaning towards a Polar HRM because it's a bit cheaper and I will still have enough bday money left to get some new sneaks too.0

I have a fitbit also all of these things are still just estimates........also the fitbit syncs with myfitnesspal...
I think I now that I have the fitbit, i would've preferred a HRM (heart rate monitor), which i still may get.
I've had it for about a month, and really starting to think its just an 100$ pedometer
Look into a HRM. Also search the forums and check out the other threads on HRM and fitbit etc.0 -
Fitbit is glorified pedometer IMHO & it doesn't really track how hard you are working. I'd get a good HRM that tracks how hard you are working.0

I would go with the HRM. Like the other posters said, the fitbit is basically just a pedometer.0

I am now on Amazon looking for my HRM, am wondering if these chest straps fit big girls though.....0

They do different things so it depends on what you are looking for. If you want to know how much you are burning when you workout then a HRM is the way to go. If you want to know how much you are burning through out the whole day, how much you are moving, etc... then Fitbit would be best. I have a Fitbit and I love it and it has made me more active but I do plan on getting a HRM for when I get back to the gym.0

Define big. I was 5' 8 1/2" & 270 lbs when I started. My Polar band fit fine.0 -

that's what i've said, I've been thinking more about a HRM, but i didn't want to sound like i was being too judgmental in my title lol0 -

Polar RS100 I was stretching out of my 40G bras (but refused to buy bigger, I just started my diet & workout efforts - so I don't know what size I ultimately got up to). Does that help?0 -
I was told when I asked that a fitbit is more for seeing what your average days are like, how many calories you burn all the time, how much you sleep, etc. A HRM will tell you how many calories you are burning specifically when you put it on for a workout, etc.
I personally have a HRM and would not get a fitbit. I like having it for calorie burns but am not interested in my all day burns, etc.
*edit: I have the Polar FT4 and love it0 -
I have a FitBit Ultra and I love it! It tracks your steps, flights of stairs climbed, calories burned through out the day, and you can have it track just for an activity like going for a walk or jog.0

i would guess just assume you burned less than it says and you will be good?0
