Restaurant dining

This is going to be my downfall while watching what I eat, and counting calories. I am taking hubby to Boston Pizza for supper for his b-day feb.20 (my diary tells me that by this point i should have lost 10lbs), so i am concerned with what will be the best thing to eat without blowing my calories in one sitting. when i was looking at the data base, a lot of stuff there seems to be a lot of calories....what is the best thing to eat there (for anyone that has gone while counting calories) and how can I be sure that what I am getting is not blowing my diet to shot?

THe only thing I can tell you is get a book that tells you how to eat out at a restaurant and watch your portion sizes. It is easy to splurge and don't let others bring you down it is all YOU> If you want something you have to work hard at it girl!0

pre plan for sure.. I just went through this tonight. Took my hubby to RedLobster for his bday. Thought I was doing good, got home added in my calories and went 500 over my goal. I'm so upset! Preplan and if all else fails most pizza place should carry salad. Its going to be very tempting but dont come home feeling like I do righ now.. good luch and happy b-day 2 hubby0

I plan ahead as much as possible. I tend to order a meal I really will enjoy, then cut it in half, or thirds depending on the calories. Just having that smaller amount satisfies me more than ordering something off the "light" menu that I won't enjoy as well. Then you have leftovers and don't leave feeling awful, as the portions are usually too big anyway.0

this was a recommendation my co-workers made as well...if i order a pizza or burger or something, ask them to bring a take home box right away so then I can cut the meal and half and i won't even think about the other half...and then i can have it the next day....i guess we are going to have to sit down and see what has the least calories, or what is something we can afford to cut to in half but not end up being disappointed in our supper because all we had was a salad :ohwell:0 -
definitely plan ahead. and don't beat yourself up too bad for those special occasions. just don't let it get you into the habit of eating like that. we have to still live life. even while we are in the process of losing. but planning ahead can help you make better choices. and when you decide on your dish think about it a lot. think about how good it will taste. that way when you get there you won't be so easily distracted by the other foods. your heart will be set on the better dish!
good luck!0 -

Most restaurants have a menu on line that you can take a peek at what you want to order before you go out. Im not familiar with the restaurant you are talking about - but you have plenty of time to stop by there and look at the menu ahead of the night out if you want to preplan.
Remember when you go out to ANY restaurant. Drink water - a lot of calories are drank at a restaurant rather then eaten. Dont have bread/crackers - in fact talk to your dining companions and make sure they are ok with it but dont even let the waiter put the bread on your table. If your dining companion wants bread then have them serve a serving to them only. Mindless nibbling while you wait is always a challenge. Be sure to get a salad, dressing on the side and eat all of that before your meal. Then before your waiter brings the meal ask them to cut the meal inhalf and box half of it for you while bringing the other half for you to eat.
Choose lean proteins while out (chicken, turkey, fish) and choose the grilled option. There are a lot of added things that we dont realize at restuarants (they cook with butter or oils etc)...instead of getting a carb (for example a potato) ask for two servings of vegetables. Or if you get a carb choose the baked option (baked potato instead of french fries for example) and dont add butter or sour cream to it add some vegetables for flavor.
Dont be scared of eating out. Just preplan and ask for the help of your dining companion to keep you in line.

That is a great link. Thanks.0 -
we decided that we will order a medium veggie pizza, ask them to go easy on the mozza cheese, and we will eat 2 pieces each and bring the rest home...i wonder if it might be too much to order a salad as an appetizer?0

Use that as a goal - you have from now until then to do the best you possibly can on your food and exercise. I bet you that if you go all out, be honest, make good choices and see some weight loss you will reevaluate what you eat that night.
As I am getting more and more into this Im thinking more about what Im eating if it is worth it and its getting easier and easier to say no, pass things up and make good choices. Dont get me wrong im not an angel and will make slip ups..but its a good feeling to know you have control.
And by the way - this is a GREAT plan!0
