P90X (not really that hard.)

Okay so I have been doing P90X last three days and am not sore(not anymore than I was from running/walking.) Also, I don't ever go over my zone hardly at all anymore. I am not exhausted after it. I will probably go for a walk shortly. Is this normal? I mean, I am still a big guy. Shouldn't I be just plain beat? I am not half assing this at all. I almost keep up with them and if I feel like I didn't do it all the way., I restart it and do it again. I have been walking/running almost every day for 4 months now.

I have heard very fit people talk about how P90X is so difficult and how it will make you sore and is so exhausting. To me, it's not near as hard as mountain climbing.

Opinions, experiences?

I have always said that P90X was easy. It was not hard at all for me. Pull up were a B*TCH at first because I could only do about 4 almost 5 but after the program I was at 16 pull ups, and that may not seem like a lot of pull ups but to me it is. I HATE PULL UPS lol. I was happy about it. I did Insanity before I ever did P90X. Insanity was far more difficult than X.

Edited: because I hate these >>>> **** things lol

Maybe you're not lifting enough weight? Heavy enough weight? When I first did P90X I didn't use enough weight and it was a joke to me. So I went and got heavier weights and it was a lot better and I started to notice a difference but I've never had any pain from it. I have a Bowflex and use it a lot maybe that's why? I am doing Les Mills Pump right now and using 30 pounds and I can feel the burn haha. I do not have pain from it but I can definitely feel it all over, and especially in my legs from squats with 30 pounds on my neck.

Oh, I feel it. I just expected it to be more difficult. As for calorie burn, I am burning 700+ per workout.
  • I've never done P90X, but I've always heard it was hard. As PP mentioned, if you can, do Insanity. You'll sweat like you've never sweat before!

Yeah I thought it was going to be really hard and mess up my back and neck but I never got any injury or felt stiff or sore ever. Just hated the pull ups. I think my problem was not enough weight. I only ever got up to 15 pounds. So maybe if I did P90X with 30 pounds like I'm doing with Les Mill I might be singing another tune lol.

I am the opposite of the previous poster. Yes, I enjoyed Insanity, but I love p90x. I'm not a cardio person though. I have crap for knees. I was in a car accident a few years ago that damaged my lower lumbar. Lots of cardio seems to screw with my back. I get above my zone with p90x and usually have to come down because of the amount of weight I lift. My body is now adjusting though. I am in the final month. It's time to up my weights again. I would say up your weights also. You may be feeling it (I definitely still am with the weight I'm at), but your body may need just a little more. I want to push myself to exhaustion... until I can't move my arms or legs when I'm finished. ;)

I am the same way. I like to push myself. My motto is Beast Mode. I go hard, fast and for usually two hours. I guess I could up the weights to 50 lbs.. That seems high. I am using 30 right now and it's strenuous but still not exhausting. I don't like the gym though. I feel like I need to compete with people half my size who have probably done this for many many years.

When doing the weights for P90X the last 3 reps of each set are supposed to be near failure. If you are getting near failure on all those sets you should be feeling it once recovery sets in. If you are not getting near failure on each set then you should increase your weights. No weight is too heavy or too light if you are getting the correct result on the last 3 reps. The program is designed to be customized to fit the individual, thus all the tracking sheets, and the different weights on different exercises to totally target that near failure for each exercise.

    This...

Forget the actual number on the weight and focus on how it feels. If you're shooting for 8-10 reps on a weight, you should start to fail at about 6 or 7. Rep 8 should go up slowly and 9 should be near impossible. If you're actually getting rep 10 all the way up, you need to increase your weight. Same goes for the 12-15 range if that's what you're working in.

Regards the soreness, if you workout with weights regularly, you should have a fair resistance to soreness anyway. I train heavy 4 days a week and am rarely sore. The more you do it, the less it hurts when resting!

About the breathlessness - well, it kicked my *kitten* big time, but then I'm not much of a cardio kinda guy, so most cardio does. If you have a fairly fit set of heart and lungs and run regularly, you should be able to breeze through it. As others have said, if you're after a hardcore cardio session, insanity is for you!

What the two previous posters said....

It's as hard as you make it. If you're not challenged, up the weights. It's up to you to make the workout what it is. When you do the workout again the next week, look to up the weight. Keep your form totally tight and try to gauge the weights so that you fail at the end of your rep range. If you start going beyond 8-10 or 12-15, up the weight so you struggle to complete the set.

Push hard, lift heavy as you can with good form (push yourself without hurting yourself) and dial in the diet and trust the programme - it will deliver results!

PS Like the previous poster I don't get sore from lifting weights, but I still get results.... DOMS is dependant on many things and is not always a good indicator of a great workout.
