On those emotional days or those days I've been in the traffic too long, I have always calmed myself by eating mindlessly. Now I have 100 pounds to lose. I'm on my way. I rock!

My doctor says to change a negative behavior you must detour your usual responses to stress by DELIBERATELY changing your normal reactions.

When I catch myself feeling stressed or in the middle of doubling portions, I do these 10 things to change that behavior. When doing each one, I say the action outloud. The dog thinks I'm nuts. He tilts his head at me!

1.Brush my teeth I say: "Brushing my teeth, brush, brush, brush"

2.Stand on one foot and bounce a ball 53 times I say: "Bounce a ball, bounce, bounce

3.Draw 25 smiley faces with teeth and hair I say: Smiley faces, smile, smile, smile

You get the idea of what I am saying outloud.

4.Vacuum

5.Turn up the radio & dance to one song

6.Scream as loud as I can in my pillow I'm not saying anything here. I'm just screaming. Screaming and screaming. Sometimes I start crying and I don't even know where it came from, but wow... it feels good.

7.Soak my feet in hot water with lilac oil

8.Do 18 pushups against the wall

9.Sit in my favorite chair, the one I never eat in, and close my eyes. Ten deep breaths slowly. Listen to my breath going in and out.

10.Pray… Holy Father thank you for this opportunity to made good choices. Thank you for my health. Thank you for all those who love me and those who are helping me be a better me. Please hold my hand while I walk through this craving. Please calm my heart and change my thoughts. In His name, I pray. Amen.

If I need to, I will start over if I still feel a craving or a desire to eat the wrong thing.

I hope this helps someone else change their behavior as much as it has helped me.

I welcome your craving fighting tool ideas!

God bless all of you on your journey to a better you.

    Rho-u-Rock! Three more
    1. Don't have junk food around. No one ever over ate vegetables
    2. Drink water.
    3. Go for a walk. Don't take any money! We know why!
These are the same things they tell smokers, trying to quit.
I guess it's pretty much the same thing. Changing a stress response.

One of my biggest cravings is ice cream. I find if I freeze banana sllices with a little lemon juice these help to curb my craving. They are great on a hot day. I also think as you change your diet to more friuts and vegetables you'll notice your cravings go down. I have just started with my fitnesspal, but I already lost 10 pounds before I jjoined by reducing the amount of processed foods that I eat. This also has helped with cravings. There is a reason for the slogan "You can't eat just one."

Even though not all of these are feasible since cravings do not only come when I am home doing nothing, the point is well proven. If I have a list of things to do, and things that will get my mind off of the craving, and also engaging in other activity, that gives time for the craving to go away, and for my "stinkin thinkin" to be replaced with something more positive (such as praying). I also like that one of the things on your list is a thing to pamper yourself without food. I think I need to try this and it may just work!! Thanks so much for sharing with us!

I would also add write. Write about your day and how you feel. Many of us eat just to stuff down feelings. Getting to the why of a craving can help.

And then sometimes one just has to tough it out!

What do you do when you have a husband who loves less than healthy food, is slim and doesn't need to lose weight?? I mean, if I buy all healthy food he feels deprived, if I buy some junk food, I feel tempted. Gotta find a happy medium! lol :drinker:
