ShakeWeight? and beginning strength training exercises

Has anyone used this? I have 110 lbs to lose and I want to try to keep my arms as firm as possible and also build muscle. I've read it helps build your chest muscles also, which would be great after nursing three babies! Has anyone used this? What kind of results did you have? Also are there any exercises you recommend? I want to start doing some light strength training a couple times a week and I just can't figure out where to start! ( I try to get out and walk 1-4 miles a day so I want to add this into it)

Thanks!!

    Don't buy a shakeweight.

Pushups are one of the best ways to work multiple muscles of your upper body.

There are a few other things you can do with either resistance bands or weights. Tricep kickbacks, bicep curls, chest flys, etc.

I'd actually look at the New Rules of Lifting for Women. It is a total body program for weight training.

Shake weight is a total gimic, basically anything you see on tv for 9.95! is... I thought that was a common sense thing...
  • Well yes I figured that, thanks. I was browsing the weights at walmart.com and I noticed it had 5stars. I was curious and read the reviews. Everyone was praising it so I came here to see if anyone had actually used it.

Were the praise reviews written by dudes married to women that had shake weights?

The first time I saw a Shakeweight commercial I honestly thought it was a joke. I was waiting for the rest of the SNL episode to come on. :-)

I know! I wasn't actually going to go out and buy one, I was curious. It does look very... suggestive.

shakeweights are a joke. Don't bother with them. Reference some of the books listed above.
  • Shake Weights are a no-no unless you're training for some porno film, LOL

You can start off with resistance bands as they are lighter & more compact so you can take it anywhere you go. I agree with the push-up although you can start off doing say 10 table push-ups then go incline about 12 inches away from the floor as you get stronger until you can be able to do a regular push-ups. Also body weight squats & lunges are your best friends for lower body.

The first time I ever heard of them was on the Southpark episode. The one on there spoke words of encouragement and sprayed the users face with some nice lotion after the workout was complete.
