I'm really motivated to follow MFP and am doing so successfully albeit slowly. I have a slight (TMI caution) constipation problem and I don't know if its from meds or just a lifetime of constipation issues. I am trying to eat alot of fiber and adding things like flax seeds and prunes but my body just doesn't let go of crap (literally). So, I thought maybe I should try to follow and stay within the nutrient allowances. Does anyone else follow it? Are their areas that you follow more than others and why?

I eat apples everday and that ads my fiber sugar up fast...surely eating apples isn't forwned on?

I think I am going to keep an ey on Protein (which I know I dont eat enough of), potassium, iron, carbs and fat.

Should I bother with Cholesterol and Sodium? I don't tend to get close to the daily allowance but that doesn't matter, correct?

What about Vitamin A, C and Calcium....will any of those help with weight loss or constipation issues?

If you are slowly getting into MFP i suggest you follow calories first, and macro/micro nutrients second. Atleast until you get the hang of logging and can generally make a whole days worth of food and hit your goal without actually logging it. (for example, I pick out my breakfast, lunch, and dinner and I already pretty much know where i'm gonna be for the day).

As for the constipation issue, I suggest you add more fats to your diet. In addition to PLENTY of water, atleast 25+ grams of fiber, try adding things like fish oil, olive oil, peanut butter, avocado, etc.

On a side note- you could always just TRY taking a teaspoon of VG (vegetable Glycerin) every morning. It seems to work pretty darn well!

I've got the logging and calories down. I have not yet added cardio but am easing into some arm weights. After reading about potassium in the last hour..I'm wondering if my lack of potassium could be causing the consipation....so I am going to make my potassium level meet the daily mark and see how that affects me.

I will keep an eye on the fats to see if that helps any. Thanks!

Constipation doesn't affect me mentally ...meaning I don't care really....unless its affecting my weight loss ability.

Still looking for more details on the nutrient level...anyone?
