Really want to start lifting weights

Looking for some advice, I work 40 hours a week at a desk job and I am a single mom to 3 very active kids, I don't have time to go to the gym now that my relationship status has changed but I would really like to start lifting weights, I don't mind spending a little bit of money on weights but I have no idea what to get and what to do with them once I get them!! Can anyone help me out with a routine and suggestions on what to buy....
