You can do it! I had gastric bypass in my 30s and I wish I had not waited that long! I still struggle with my weight (I have gained as much as 40 lbs back) but I know I feel so much better and my health isn't suffering if I keep my weight down. Good luck!
  • I didn't know you can gain weight after the bypass...but my doctor said because I'm so young the procedure will be great just as long as I lose these 40lbs

Of course you can gain weight after the surgery. It isn't a cure all or a quick fix. You still have to limit your food intake and have a healthier relationship with food. Please don't think you just need to lose 40 lbs so you can get the surgery and then you are done.

My daughter had the procedure done. I did inform her people tend to gain the weight back if they don't do what they are taught. The surgery is a tool to help you lose the weight and keep it off, but if you think you can eat like you did before the surgery things will go wrong. Need to be sure that this surgery is for you. There are problems like dumping syndrome, and absorption problems that will be lifetime issues. I think if you do succeed to lose the 40 lbs, just keep it up like they do on "Biggest Loser" :)
