Foam Rollers - opinions, advice and more

Hi all
I just recently starting lifting weights and while doing my research I came across the topic of foam rollers a lot. As I am so super sore in my legs I would actually know more about them. So who is using them and what sort of exercises do you do with them? Do you find them helpful or a waste of money? Would be great to hear opinions on them.
Thank you
Daisy

I use them sometimes for my legs after football games as I'm a winger and spend the 90 mins sprinting up and down! Phew!
Its not as good as a massage, but I find it quite useful to keep everything from going tight. Get one with ridges on it to get a bit deeper this is the one I have: http://www.triggerpointuk.com/home?gclid=CMTby7CO_LECFRMdtAodaBcArA

I foam roll about 4 times a week. I use it as a quick warm up and do it on rest days as well. I love it!
Helpful if you do it often and correctly
Wasteful if you let it attract dust and just do quick rolls instead of slow and hard.
I will say this, like weight lifting it is a progressive thing, so expect to hard a harder and harder roller. I'm on my third roller, a PVC pipe!0 -
Thanks a lot for the input. I think I will get one. My legs are so tight and sore and just the thought of having something to massage it feels good
I have seen DVD's with exercises might get one of that too.0 -
Foam rolling does not help with doms [soreness] but they ae usefull as part of a stretching and mobility routine.0

I have fibromyaliga and a bad back, I use my foam roller all the time to work out tight spots. I second what hendix7 said, it does nothing for DOMS, but it really can give me some relief. Don't get me wrong though, when you find a spot you need it, it hurts!0

I use one for my upper back as recommended by my physical therapist. I just noticed yesterday that the Fitness Buddy app has a full foam roller workout.0

They are awesome. You won't regret getting one. YouTube search for videos on using it.0

You'll hate it the first day you have it. And then you'll wonder how you ever lived without one.0

I have two home made rollers made from 4" pvc and an old thick yoga map and I have the black model of the Rumble Roller. I use them all several times a week. They have made my life so much more pleasant. The Rumble Roller is excellent at working out tight muscle groups and knotted areas.0

He he...When I put it into youtube it cam up with loads of beauty videos on how to set your hair...I suppose it is the sort of stuff I normally watch
I can only imagine it too be nice and hope it doesn't sound weird but I really enjoy the 'pain' you get from massage tight or sore areas....0 -
I use a roller, but its not foam......www.thestick.com i have found for me personally the best way to unwind my muscles is bikram yoga. The heat and the postures really help.0
