I am in the Manchester are and I am looking to do a half-marathon this spring. I do not have a computer at home and am blocked from every sport site here at work. Is there anyone out there that could pass on any they know of? I thought about doing the 'freeze your buns off' series in Nashua to 'warm up'.:)
Thanks!
Thanks!

pipinana....I am from Goffstown....I didn't realize there were that many in NH. Do you know which are in the spring? I think if I do a half in the spring, I will be more than ready for the Manchester one in the fall. Instead of Manchester, would you say there is a better one in the fall? Which have you done? Applecrisp always sounds good!
Chenoachem...thank you also..now i am craving dessert:)0 -

I know that there is one along the ocean in the spring but I can't remember what it was called or if it still exists ( I grew up in NH but lived in NM for 5 years). I will look tonight and see if I can find it.0 -
The race I was thinking of is called Rye by the sea but now it is only a Duathalon and 5K.0

Hey purple, I'll look them up today... I'm going to send you a friend request so I can email the info to you...0

Well, there were only three for 2010, the rest were all from 2009.... So I'll just post them here, but still friend me? Good luck!
New Hampshire > Big Lake Half Marathon
Alton, NH
Date Saturday, May 8, 2010
Event Details
The famed Lakes Region of New Hampshire is the setting for the Big Lake Half Marathon, which takes nearly 1,200 runners each year on a tour of the shores and hills of Lake Winnipesaukee.
Bordered by the nearby White Mountains and Ossipee Mountain Range, the course for this point-to-point race starts at the Alton Central School and makes a narrow loop along the lake, passing by sights such as Sandy Point, Pumpkin Point and Mt. Major Park, and finishes a little over a mile from the starting line at the Alton Bay Community Center.
The race course includes numerous rolling hills and rises a total of just over 200 feet in elevation throughout the race, with its steepest hill occurring around mile 6, followed by a long gradual downhill over the next 2 miles. Along the way, live bands will be on hand to entertain and energize runners, with musical acts ranging from jazz to blues to possibly even an Elvis impersonator, organizers say.
But the biggest attraction for this race is probably the scenery itself, which organizers justifiably describe as spectacular and which help make the half a great centerpiece or conclusion to a vacation in this beautiful part of New England. It’s a favorite destination for driving tours, skiing, hiking and nature walking, fall foliage tours and more.
Race Weather & Climate
The month of May brings warming (but still sometimes cool) weather to this lakefront town in the central part of the state, with average temperatures that range from 45°F to 67°F. Precipitation, which is fairly even throughout the year here, averages 3.5 inches for the month.

New Hampshire > Half at the Hamptons Half Marathon
Hampton Beach, NH
Date Sunday, February 21, 2010
Event Details
Come out and "enjoy" a cold, wintertime run for 13.1 miles along the windswept Atlantic Ocean coastline of New Hampshire's beachfront towns at the annual Half at the Hamptons, an out-and-back loop race that takes runners from Ashworth-by-the-Sea just north of Hampton Beach, along a route that passes through both inland, rural areas and along stretches that run alongside the sandy beaches near the area's summertime resort hotels.
Limited to 1,200 runners and walkers -- race organizers welcome and encourage both to come out for the race -- the event starts at 11:00 AM to give the sun a chance to warm up the temperatures even just a little bit, and then sends participants out on a loop course that takes them northward along Ocean Boulevard, past the Great Boars Head lighthouse. The race route then turns inland on Winnacunnet Road, taking runners west on an inland route along the rural roads through the villages of Hampton and North Hampton, as runners encounter numerous rolling hills mixed with flat stretches along paved country roads.
Winding its way through Hampton and North Hampton, the race course makes turns onto Barbour Road, Little River Road, Woodland Road and Maple Road over the next few miles, until runners and walkers make their way back to the shore near Philbrick Pond just north of Little Boars Head, which starts a stretch of the race that many consider its most scenic and dramatically beautiful, a four-mile stretch all along the ocean that takes participants through North Hampton State Park, Plaice Cove and New Hampshire's North Beach, which many travelers (and local tourist organizations) call perhaps the "most spectacular oceanside drive on the East Coast."
Along this stretch, runners will see a combination of gorgeous natural scenery and classic New England architecture styles, as the rocky cliffs of Little Boars Head and nearby gardens are mixed in with stately Victorian and Edwardian-style homes. Runners follow these last few miles of the race all the way south back to the starting line, finishing up as the post-race party is beginning at Ashworth-by-the-Sea. And because this is a "wintertime running adventure," as race organizers call it, all participants are strongly encouraged to bring cold-weather running clothing and gear, as the race is likely to take place in very cold conditions.
Race Weather & Climate
Nestled along New Hampshire's Atlantic coastline, in the southeastern corner of the state, the town of Hampton typically experiences cold, blustery weather conditions in the late winter season and relatively steady precipitation (frozen in winter, rainfall in summer) year-round. In February, the area's average monthly temperatures range between 37°F and 18°F, while precipitation totals average nearly 3.4 inches for the month.
Fees
$38 if registered by November 30, 2009
$45 after Nov. 30
$50 on the day of the race

New Hampshire > Great Bay Half Marathon & 5K
Newmarket, NH
Date
Sunday, April 11, 2010
Event Details
More than 1,300 runners and walkers took part in the second annual running of the Great Bay Half Marathon in April of 2009, starting what race organizers plan as an annual rite of spring in this town just off the coast of New Hampshire. The race takes participants on a scenic tour of the Great Bay Estuary and National Wildlife Refuge, a 1,000-acre park filled with marshes, beaver ponds and pine and oak forests that are home to abundant waterfowl, river otters, foxes, turtles, and many other species of wildlife.
The 13.1-mile race course starts in the small mill town of Newmarket, following paved roads for the first two and a half miles, with some gentle rolling hills thrown in along the way. Between miles 2 and 3, the course changes to a gravel road with more rolling hills for the next two and a half miles, and treats runners and walkers to views of the area’s historic stone walls, hay fields and forest lands. Once you reach mile 5, the most scenic portion of the race begins as the course enters the Great Bay Estuary, and the terrain changes back to paved surfaces for this coastline road.
While on the Bay’s scenic road, participants are cautioned to stay on the left-hand side throughout the remainder of the race, as it will remain open to automobile traffic. The next 3 to 4 miles offer some steep hills followed by long, gradual downhills, and are considered the most challenging part of the course. After mile 9, the course enters the Moody Point area and becomes flatter and easier, and includes ample breathtaking views of the Great Bay.
The last few miles of the race take participants out of the more natural landscape and back into the neighborhoods of Newmarket, with Cape Cod-style architecture and still-wonderful views of the scenic areas nearby.
Race Weather & Climate
In Newmarket, a small town just inland from New Hampshire’s Great Bay, springtime weather conditions can still be quite cold, as average April temperatures range between 34°F and 58°F. Wet weather is also a possibility, as precipitation for the month averages nearly 4.1 inches.
Fees
$38 for the half marathon, if registered before December 31, 2009
$45 between January 1 - April 8, 2010
$50 on the day of the race (depending on availability)

-
I was doing up to about 5 miles, but then got sick w/ the H1N1, and then the holidays. I am only doing about 2-2.5 right now but love it and can't wait to build back up....I really love running, I just did a 2.34 mile run outside, didn't plan on it, just needed to get some fresh air, so I left the family and took off for a quick one. Do you know which run you are going to shoot for?0

I would like to shoot for something in the fall. You?0 -
I would really like to do one this spring....the one in Alton sounds really pretty. If I get really crazy, I would like to train hard all summer and do the Manchester Marathon in November. I watch the Biggest Loser, and they really inspire me!0
-
I done a 5k for breast cancer (making strides) for the last 2 yrs. I have only walked it, this year I plan to run I too am a fan of the Biggest Loser. I will have to check out the Alton one your talking about. That show keeps me on my toes!!

Good for you doing making strides for breast cancer! You can run it! The one in Alton sounds a bit hilly, but I bet it is beautiful!
I am excited for the Biggest Loser toight. We are doing something like that in the office, we have to put in $1.00 every week and whoever loses the highest percentage by the end of May, wins the pool! It is more incentive!0 -
I thought the same thing " Alton = a bit hilly " to run across that finish line must be AWSOME!
Wow, now that's a incentive to WIN! How many of you are in the pool at work?
The show was great tonight. I am always shocked at all the stuff I learn each week.0 -
There is 8 of us doing it at $1/wk for 21 weeks, for a total of $168.00. That is a good amount for some new clothes! As much as I would like to win the $$, I feel that as long as I lose the weight I would like, I win w/out the $$. It is great to see everyone so into it and hearing healthy talk around the office!
Biggest Loser was good, I am pushing myself into the mindset that unless I am not breathing, I have to keep pushing-Jillian is great!0 -
It must be great for support at work with everyone talking healthy I LOVE Jillian too. I am going to do her 30-day shred dvd today, can't wait! I had a loss of 3lbs. last week hoping for at leat 2lbs. this week.0
-
Have you done all 3 segments yet? I did the 1st 2 on ON DEMAND....but they didn't have the 3rd....I did it for 10 days/7days and then the Holidays came....I need to do that again, I saw a difference in my stomache w/ that! Go 2lbs this week! I am hoping for that, though I got on the scale today, and it wasn't looking that way!0
-
What day do you weigh in? Mine is on Tues. Yes, I have done level 1,2 and 3 of the shred. I did level 2 yesterday and burned only 170 with my Polar F6 on. I am going to try level 3 today and see what that burns. I am starting a class on Mon. for 4 weeks. It's from 8 to 4. I am thinking of using the shred Mon.- Thurs. for a quick workout before I leave in the morning. I am affraid I will not want to do anything after getting out at 4pm, plus homework.0
-
We are weighing in on Tuesdays....Do you think level 3 is the hardest? I hope your class is a fun one! It is definately easier getting the workout done in the am, I tend to be too lazy at the end of the day!
I am really excited, I just went to the gym at lunch and ran 3 miles in 26.5 minutes....that is serious record time for me. I was so determined after I weighed myself today and I gained 1lb., I don't know how, I have been really doing my best, but now I need to push it!0 -
WOW! You go girl....Great job on your run yesterday at the gym!:smokin: I don't really find one level to be harder, they are all a challenge. I like it that I have three to pick from three days out of the week, so I don't get bored. Are you :drinker: your 8 glasses a day? You still have three more days until your weigh in. I beet you see it fall off:flowerforyou:0
-
did it--I signed up and paid the race fee for the Great Bay half-marathon on 4/11.....There is no turning back now-I can't afford to throw away almost $50! I ran 3.8 miles today...my step-daughter rode her bike, and I ran w/ her. We will see what the scale brings..a nit nervous, it is so hard daily to stay w/in your calories-i had a large salad yesterday as a snack and because of the olive oil and english muffin, it put me over by more than i was planning! going to get another glass of water now!0
-
GOOD for you! You can do it Maybe we could run one in the fall together. I agree, it's really hard to stay in the calorie limit they give you on some days. I did the shred yesterday level 3, still only a burn of 170. Class starts tomorrow, what to pack for the day has me at a loss tonight. I am off for a run, shower and bed I will check in tomorrow evening. Hoping we don't get hit to hard with this storm tonight. Happy Monday0
-
What kind of class are you taking? You do NOT have to answer that if you don't want....A good amount of snow, instead of hitting the gym this am, I shoveled. I did go to the gym at lunch and got in 3 miles. Everytime I want to slow down and give-in, I think what would Jillian be saying to me right now!
I can not wait to go home and shower, and relax. I am so tired...not so excited about weighing in tomorrow-but that is ok!0
