When I'm reading some of these threads, I find myself saying, out loud, "That's just BAD advice. ugh." and shaking my head.
I know I'm not alone here. right?

Yeah but on the other hand, you also have to be smrt enough to figure out the difference. And if you don't... then the "good" advice never would've mattered.0
-
You have a good point.
But unfortunately, sifting through it is a talent that not everyone has.0 -

Natural selection.
Pretty much what she said.0 -
When I saw the title, I thought you wanted people to be creative and come up with some really bad advice, like, "If you want to loose five pounds in a week, brush your teeth with lard on a branch."0

lets do it!!!
If you want to loose body fat, then just stop eating dietary fat.0 -
Yep. I read a lot that may be okay advice for losing weight (numbers on the scale) but is not good advice for losing in a way that will lead to keeping the weight off, nor for being healthy. It's tough to read over and over.0

Thank you. Too many examples to even start listing, it happens all the time, no wonder people are confused! but hey, its a public forum and its gonna happen I guess. :noway:0 -
Whatever advice is given, filter it through: 1) Is this a healthy thing to do and would my health care provider give it the nod? 2) is this sustainable over a long period of time? and 3) is this going to extremes or is it a small change that will pay off over time?
Best wishes for wise choices for my MFP friends!0 -
Right. And, anyone asking for advice should take anything that seems too good to be true or just doesn't seem right, as something they need to research and find the facts before acting on it.0
-
Hence why I do my own research. People's advice on here is usually contradictory to pretty much everything I have ever read on health and fitness. Of course they never offer sources, not even I read it in Cosmo or that new fitness book by that one guy.
The best is when I read something that conforms with items I have read in many reliable sources and someone goes "This is totally wrong" and nothing else. :P0 -
Want to lose that belly fat? Its so easy just start rubbing warm towels on it, the fat will literally start melting off!
Want to get toned? Do 100 pushups every day and 100 sit ups. Don't matter what you eat.
(bad advice in general)0 -
sometimes the bad advice seems genuinely offered and the sarcasm font (if there is one) is lost in the fray....
and I can only help but think...good god what are you DOING to yourself if you're following this bad advice you just offered....
ugh0 -
Yes, there are some people who give advice when they don't know what they are talking about.0

The best thing about good and bad advice; you don't have to take it.
We all get advice on diets from almost everyone we meet and what people think we should be doing in order to lose that weight. Someone handed me a copy of that "green soup diet" that went around a few years back. They said they'd lost 15 lbs on it. What they didn't say was that they'd gained it all back within a very short time.0 -
You wanna know whats a bad advice? Taking sleeping pills and laxative at the same time. Thats a bad advice if you ask me0

I concur!!!
But if you told someone they'd loose 10 pounds doing it because it revs up their metabolism and burn extra calories because they will have deeper REM sleep, you know some fool would do it.0 -

You lose while you sleep... what's so bad about that?0 -
