Accepting "fatness"

Today, I figured that before starting to work on my weight, I had to accept my fatness. People were saying they were worried for my health and I would answer angrily. It's when my doctor told me that I could live many years under the average that I decided I couldn't hide it anymore.

Today, at the gym, I realized That when changing clothes, I automatically try to hide my belly or make it look smaller. As soon as I remove my t-shirt : boing! Belly goes in!

I had to conciously stop it. Because in a couple of months, I won't even have to do it anymore.

Anyone else has the belly reflex in public? It even happens to me in private, when I'm alone or with my girlfriend!

If you're here, I guarantee you won't need to suck it in anymore! I used to be so self-conscious while changing, being sure to cover myself with my towel while changing. 64 pounds later, I don't give a fizzle who sees me because I worked hard for this and I bet you will too! Good luck!

    Thanks!

The easy part is that it's a special gym, it's more like a health center, so it's pretty much frequented by elderly people and obese people, I feel much more comfortable with them than in a regular gym.

I joined the YMCA. Depending on the time I go, I can be surrounded by what I call the Viagra club (elderly men and women in silver sneakers classes or hot body young adults. At first I felt intimidated, but as the pounds come off, I feel healthier, can go longer, don't get as red-faced, and don't feel like I don't belong. I have had other members approach me and congratulate me on my progress -- who knew anyone was paying attention to little ol' me? Lol Now I'm training for the 5k on Thanksgiving and buying clothes off the shelf at any store I want to. It's such a great feeling! You can do it!

I would look at it more as accepting yourself and loving yourself regardless of size but to be careful with "accepting fatness". If you accept fatness then that means you're okay with being overweight and unhealthy. That should not be accepted. After all, you are here to change that, right?

So keep that positive outlook and accept that you are getting healthy! :flowerforyou:

Sucking in is not a bad thing......it trains your muscles to stay that way. before long you wont need to do it but it never hurts to. Good luck with your weight loss.

I know how you feel! I always try to hide it in the way I dress and pretend like it doesn't bother me. But it does, and I am going to change it! We are going to change it! Looking forward to not carrying around the extra weight! You are taking the right step just by being here!
