NSV for lady who needs knee replacement!

I had a huge NSV last night at my training session. I have been working with my PT since January 2012 and when I began my journey at that time I was severely crippled with knee pain (bone to bone) and contemplating using crutches/wheelchair to get around.
My trainer and I have worked together once a week since then, with me also training every evening 6 times a week on my own.
I am so strong now and last night I did step ups on a BENCH! Not a step - a BENCH! WOW. I had no idea I would be able to do that and am so pleased with myself. My brain said "you must be joking" - my body said "OK".
I am a good example of "If I can do it, then so can you" - I still need a knee replacement but my progress has more than likely delayed it.

Amazing!! Congratulations!
Would you mind sharing some of the exercises you've done? My mom has that same bone-on-bone pain in her knees and she's been trying to figure out how to start working out.0 -

Not at all! Lunges, squats, leg press, side lunges - all excrutiating at first but as I have been training more or less every day I grew stronger and now I can do walking lunges, one legged squats and of course now step ups onto a bench!
It's very painful at first and the quads, hamstrings, glutes, calves and knees (basically everything) really complained, I had to take painkillers (nearly off them now...) but I find I am okay as long as I don't twist - front to back bending is okay. My personal trainer has basically saved me from going into a wheelchair.
If you would like to send a friend request I don't mind sharing my experiences.0 -
That is wonderful! I have bone on bone on my left knee and was told I am too young for knee surgery and then with my weight they wouldn't do it. I don't want to have a knee replacement either so the news of them not doing it wasn't bothering me but I needed relief from the pain. I got a cortisone shot in that knee in Feb of this year and then the shots weekly to put fluid into the joint and that has helped. I've lost 81 pounds also since Jan of this year and I know that's helped alot too. Currently I am just walking for exercise due to the knee issues. I have bought work out dvds that were low impact only to find out when I tried them my knee hurt like heck. I tried Zumba dvds in Feb and I think that's what brough on the last knee pain issue so I stay with walking for now. I am hoping to join a gym soon and be able to do more than just walking.
I know how horrible the pain can be from your knees hurting you. I've had to stop doing activies I love to do like dog agility training and trials since the knee dr said to not do them anymore since they were making my knee/knees worse. I am hoping once I get to a goal weight I can maybe start back up with dog agility training since I miss it and I know my westie does too!
Keep up the great work! Friend me if you like!0 -
Wow that is quite an achievement! You are an inspiration to me. My left knee is bone on bone too. I can step up on a step but have been to scared to try a bench. Mentally I am still fat sometimes. Congratulations, since I know how great it felt.0
