Silk Fruit & Protein Drinks

Hello All!
I am just wondering about Silk Fruit & Protein products and how it will affect my glucose (T2 Diabetic). The taste is amazing, I tried the strawberry banana shake and I think that I could get used to drinking them IF it does not increase my glucose level. The first day I only had a cup of it. I kind of think that it will be ok in moderation, I just need to be sure.

It'll probably be safer to make your own shakes and be able to control the ingredients. If you live a busy lifestyle I could see how making shakes my scratch daily could be a pain in the bum, but you could pick one day out of the week to make 10 servings of a personalize shake and freeze them so you can thaw it out throughout the rest of the week as you go. You'll also save some money since those Silk drinks only have 3 servings for $2.50 (the price in my area, could be more or less there.)0

With T2 you want to watch your carbs. Liquid carbs hit most people the hardest because there is often minimal fiber to slow it down. It is better to eat whole fruit since the fiber will slow down digestion of the sugars. To figure out whether it is safe for you to eat or drink something take you BG before, 1 hr after, 2 hr after and sometimes 3 hr after to see what it does to you. Everyone is different in what they can tolerate.
I sometimes make my own smoothies with 1/2 cup almond milk (I'm milk intolerant and almond also has fewer cals and carbs), 1/2 cup Greek yog, 2 cups spinach, 1 cup fruit of some sort usually berries, 1 tablespoon ground flax seed and maybe a bit of splenda. It is still pretty high in carbs but the added fiber is helpful. I also use full fat yog and fat also slows down sugar absorption. You really don't taste the spinach although it makes it sort of green.
Some fruits are higher in carbs than others. Berries tend to be lower. Tropicals (bananas, mangoes) tend to be higher.0 -
Thanks guys! The information was really helpful. I think I will give making my own smoothies a try this week. I like the spinach idea because lately, it seems like I have been added spinach to almost everything that I eat. As for as the green color, I dont mind that either because I sometimes use moringa leaf powder (as a natural vitamin supplement) and it turns my water green.0
