R I P Neil Armstrong, my hero as a child and adult.
I was 6 when we landed on the Moon and I follow the space program very closely.
If you read about how and why Neil Armstrong was selected it is truly amazing.
He was flying his Gemini mission when one of the the thrusters started firing for no reason.
Neil Armstrong had to manually bring the ship under control while the misfiring retro was still active. If he didn't do this, he and the other astronaut would have died. He stayed cool and did his job.
For this and many other reasons he was selected tp fly Apollo 11.
He personified the kind of person you occationally meet that is cool under pressure and also an amazingly nice person too.
RIP Neil, you wil be missed.

I agree with you on this. He was a hero and a very unassuming man. I, too, remember watching the moon landing as a child. I was enthralled and even at the age of 7, I knew that I was witnessing something historic. I even ended up working with the shuttle until it was retired last year, so i guess I was really impressed! As we say around the Cape......
Godspeed, John Glenn!0 -

RIP Neil ... just doesn't seem possible that a hero like him would die. Astronauts seem immortal. A sad day, indeed.0

I hope he gets true honors! I felt a pang in my heart when I heard it on the radio today! I was not born yet but I feel a REAL TRUE HERO! Those who do the job and just do it...despite the odds they push thru!0

WOW! I can't believe he died. It's so hard to comprehend a hero like that eventually passing away. He lived an amazing life and has a place in all our lives. He will go long down in history.0
